Sam Brannan Cottage, Calistoga

Sam Brannan arrived in Napa Valley in the early 1860's. Brannan's dream was to make this place the "Saratoga of California." In 1866 cottages were built and palm trees planted prior to the grand opening of the resort. This is the only cottage left standing.

1971 register text, presented as a historical document. It uses the period's terms for Native people; the state's landmark listings still carry most of this wording, and the California Office of Historic Preservation maintains the program's current texts.
