Hill Town Ferry

This was one of the first ferries to cross the Salinas River and was operated by Hiram Cory. Monterey County Board of Supervisors regulated the toll. In 1877 the toll was as follows: buggy and horse, 25 cents; buggy and horses, 37½ cents; 4 horses and wagon, 75 cents; 6 horses and wagon, $1; horse and saddle, 25 cents; and man on foot, 12½ cents. Ferry was in operation until bridge was built in 1889.
