Tapia Adobe (Site of)

Tiburcio Tapia, a leading citizen of Los Angeles, petitioned for a grant to the Cucamonga lands in 1839. As soon as grant was made Don Tiburcio immediately began the building of an adobe house on the crest of Cucamonga's highest hill. Its roof was covered with brea from Rancho la Brea near Los Angeles.

1971 register text, presented as a historical document. It uses the period's terms for Native people; the state's landmark listings still carry most of this wording, and the California Office of Historic Preservation maintains the program's current texts.
