Mormon Bar

Mormon Bar was first settled in 1849 by Mormons who stayed, however, only a short time. Their places were taken at once by other miners, while at a later period the same ground was worked over by thousands of Chinese.

1971 register text, presented as a historical document. It uses the period's terms for Native people; the state's landmark listings still carry most of this wording, and the California Office of Historic Preservation maintains the program's current texts.
