Lime Kilns

Tradition was that the lime kilns were built by Russian stone masons and worked by Indians during the Russian occupation of Sonoma County, which began in the spring of 1812. It is probable that the lime was used by the Russians to whitewash their windmills, farm buildings, granaries, storehouses, cattleyards; and for use in the tannery and to manufacture brick and tile.
