Benicia Barracks, one of the first U.S. military posts in the state, was established on April 30, 1849, by Lieutenant Colonel Silas Casey in command of Companies C and G of the 2nd U.S. Infantry. First buildings were erected in 1849. Abandoned as a post April 30, 1908, and is now part of Benicia Arsenal. First Lieutenant U. S. Grant was stationed here August 1 to November 14, 1852, also in May and June 1853.
