Old Emigrant Trail

Near the present Pit River-Happy Camp road this old pioneer trail is yet easily traced and was part of one of the earliest roads in northeastern California. In places trees 8 to 10 inches in diameter are growing in the old road bed.

1971 register text, presented as a historical document. It uses the period's terms for Native people; the state's landmark listings still carry most of this wording, and the California Office of Historic Preservation maintains the program's current texts.
