Cadw's description
Location
Situated on the N side of the A40 opposite lane to Castle Farm.
History
Milestone probably of c1820, the turnpike road being rerouted in 1819-20. This milestone looks older and cruder than the next to the E and could possibly date from 1792 when milestones were ordered for the first turnpike road. The '5' may be a mis-carved '3' as the next stone to E has a four from Trecastle.
Exterior
Milestone, painted stone, reading 'TO BRECON 9 miles TO Trecastle 5'.
Reason for designation
Included for its special historic interest as a surviving feature of the turnpike road system.
