NIEUWE HOLLANDSE WATERLINIE
Inleiding
HERDENKINGSMONUMENT ter nagedachtenis van talrijke in de Tweede Wereldoorlog op het Fort De Bilt geëxecuteerde personen. Het monument bevindt zich iets westelijk van de mitrailleurkazemat in de noordelijke wal, die bekend is als de 'dodenbunker'. Tijdens de Duitse bezetting in de jaren 1940-1945 is Fort De Bilt gebruikt als executieplaats. Er zijn ten minste 140 mensen, voornamelijk afkomstig uit verzetskringen, gefusilleerd. Nadat het fort vanaf 1945 korte tijd had dienst gedaan als gevangenis voor collaborateurs, is er in 1949 een gedenkteken voor de slachtoffers opgericht. Het in wit natuursteen uitgevoerde beeld is ontworpen door de Bilthovense kunstenaar Horst Jungblut. Het beeld staat symbool voor het gezin dat niet meer compleet is. HERDENKINGSMONUMENT (1949) in wit natuursteen, ter nagedachtenis aan de verzetsstrijders en andere slachtoffers van de Duitse bezetter die in de Tweede Wereldoorlog op Fort De Bilt zijn geëxecuteerd. Het stelt een vrouw met haar zoontje voor, bij het graf van haar man. De vrouw draagt in haar rechterhand een lauwerkrans. Naast hen een hondje, als symbool van trouw. Op de sokkel een inscriptie met de eerste regels van het Wilhelmus: 'DEN VADERLANDT GHETROUWE BLYF ICK TOT IN DEN DOET'. Plaat met daarin gegraveerd 140 namen van gefusilleerde personen. Het beeld rust op een hoefijzervormige, bakstenen sokkel. Voor het beeld een bloemenperk en in de nabijheid een klokkenstoel met luidklok (inscriptie o.m. MCMLXVII).
Waardering
Het HERDENKINGSMONUMENT op Fort De Bilt is van algemeen belang vanwege:
* Cultuurhistorische, herinnerings- en ensemblewaarden als na de oorlog aangebracht onderdeel van een in de Tweede Wereldoorlog door de Duitse bezetter onder meer als gevangenis en fusilladeplaats gebruikt fort van de Nieuwe Hollandse Waterlinie. Tevens vanwege de functionele en fysieke samenhang met de overige onderdelen van het complex en in het bijzonder met de nabije fusilladeplaats en de 'dodenbunker'.
Het betreft een gedenkteken met annexe attributen uit 1949, dat is opgericht ter nagedachtenis van ter plaatse door de Duitse bezetter gefusilleerde (voornamelijk) verzetsstrijders.

NEW HOLLANDIC WATERLINE
Introduction
MEMORIAL MONUMENT in commemoration of numerous persons executed at Fort De Bilt during the Second World War. The monument is situated slightly to the west of the machine-gun casemate in the northern rampart, which is known as the 'death bunker'. During German occupation in the years 1940-1945, Fort De Bilt was used as an execution site. At least 140 people, mainly from resistance circles, were shot. After the fort had served briefly as a prison for collaborators from 1945 onwards, a memorial for the victims was erected in 1949. The sculpture, executed in white natural stone, was designed by Bilthovense artist Horst Jungblut. The sculpture symbolises the family that is no longer complete. The laurel wreath in the woman's hand is a sign of mourning.

MEMORIAL MONUMENT (1949) in white natural stone, in commemoration of the resistance fighters and other victims of the German occupier who were executed at Fort De Bilt during the Second World War. It depicts a woman with her young son at the grave of her husband. The woman holds a laurel wreath in her right hand. Beside them a small dog, as a symbol of loyalty. On the plinth an inscription with the opening lines of the Wilhelmus: 'DEN VADERLANDT GHETROUWE BLYF ICK TOT IN DEN DOET'. Plaque engraved with 140 names of executed persons. The sculpture rests on a horseshoe-shaped brick plinth. In front of the sculpture a flower bed and in the vicinity a bell tower with bell (inscription including MCMLXVII).
