NIEUWE HOLLANDSE WATERLINIE
Inleiding
INUNDATIEDUIKER / SLUIS in de Voordorpsedijk, als civiel en militair waterbouwkundig onderdeel van de Nieuwe Hollandse Waterlinie. Het verdedigingssysteem van de Nieuwe Hollandse Waterlinie was in de eerste plaats gebaseerd op het gecontroleerd onder water zetten van (grote) terreinoppervlakken. Gecontroleerde inundatie vergde een ingenieus systeem van waterwerken, zoals sluizen, stuwen, vaarten en kanalen, waarmee het peil snel en binnen nauwe grenzen gesteld en gehandhaafd kon worden. De vaarten en kanalen waren vaak reeds ter plaatse aanwezig en vergden dan hoogstens enige aanpassing. In de Voordorpsedijk (tussen nrs. 22 en 31 A), ongeveer halverwege tussen Fort Blauwkapel en Fort Voordorp, ligt een inundatieduiker / sluis die in eerste aanleg dateert van 1815 en zou zijn vernieuwd in 1895. Het werk - (mogelijk) als enige overgebleven van enkele duikers in de Voordorpse Dijk - komt pas als sluis voor op kaarten van omstreeks 1900. Het sluisje kende zowel een civiele als een militaire functie, daar het de waterstaatkundige grens vormde tussen twee polders (Maartensdijk Waterschap en Voorveldsche Polder). Bij inundaties werd het werk geopend.
Omschrijving
INUNDATIEDUIKER / SLUIS in de Voordorpsedijk bestaande uit een koker onder de weg / dijk, met aan de zuidwestzijde de goed zichtbare doorlaat met (resten van) een kering en ter weerszijden vleugels. De inundatieduiker heeft een oppervlakte van 6.70 x 1.90 m en omvat een 0.80 m brede koker, afgedekt door een halfcirkelvormig gewelf. De constructie is uitgevoerd in metselwerk met hardstenen afdekking; aan beide zijden sluitsteen met jaartal 1815.
Waardering
De INUNDATIEDUIKER / SLUIS in de Voordorpsedijk, ongeveer midden tussen de Forten Blauwkapel en Voordorp, en deel uitmakend van het complex Betonnen Werken tussen Fort Blauwkapel en Fort Voordorp is van algemeen belang vanwege:
* Cultuurhistorische waarden als onderdeel van de Nieuwe Hollandse Waterlinie zoals deze is ontworpen door C.R.T. Kraijenhoff en in eerste aanleg vanaf 1815 door hem, Jan Blanken en majoor-ingenieur Willem Offerhaus is gerealiseerd en daarna door anderen gedurende ongeveer 125 jaar is versterkt en verbeterd.
* Architectuurhistorische waarden, in het bijzonder als uiting van de militair-strategische bouwkunde, die gebaseerd is op en ontstond als uitvloeisel van - het systeem van inundatie en accesverdediging (19de eeuw) en - de wedloop met de zich versterkende offensieve middelen ( 19de eeuw).
Het betreft hier een aan de militair-strategische bouwkunde gerelateerde uiting van historische weg- en waterbouwkunde, namelijk een duiker / sluis voor civiele en militaire toepassingen, daterend van 1815 en vernieuwd in 1895.
* Ensemblewaarde en situationele waarden als onderdeel van de Nieuwe Hollandse Waterlinie, alsmede vanwege de functionele en fysieke samenhang met de overige onderdelen van het complex.
* Het onderdeel is representatief (karakteristiek) omdat het een voorbeeld is van toepassing van dit type werken in een gecombineerde civiele en militaire situatie.

NEW HOLLAND WATER LINE
Introduction
INUNDATION CULVERT / LOCK in the Voordorpsedijk, as a civil and military hydraulic engineering component of the New Holland Water Line. The defence system of the New Holland Water Line was based in the first place on the controlled flooding of (large) terrain areas. Controlled inundation required an ingenious system of water works, such as locks, weirs, channels and canals, by means of which the water level could be rapidly set and maintained within narrow limits. The channels and canals were often already present on site and required at most some adjustment. In the Voordorpsedijk (between nos. 22 and 31 A), roughly halfway between Fort Blauwkapel and Fort Voordorp, lies an inundation culvert / lock which dates from initial construction in 1815 and was said to have been renewed in 1895. The work - (possibly) as the only surviving one of several culverts in the Voordorpse Dijk - appears as a lock on maps from around 1900 onwards. The small lock served both a civil and a military function, as it formed the hydrological boundary between two polders (Maartensdijk Waterschap and Voorveldsche Polder). During inundations the work was opened.

INUNDATION CULVERT / LOCK in the Voordorpsedijk consisting of a pipe under the road / dike, with on the southwest side the clearly visible aperture with (remains of) a closure and wings on either side. The inundation culvert has a surface area of 6.70 x 1.90 m and comprises a 0.80 m wide pipe, covered by a semicircular vault. The construction is executed in masonry with hardstone covering; on both sides closing stone with date 1815.
Valuation
The INUNDATION CULVERT / LOCK in the Voordorpsedijk, roughly midway between Forts Blauwkapel and Voordorp, and forming part of the complex of Concrete Works between Fort Blauwkapel and Fort Voordorp is of general interest by virtue of:
* Cultural-historical values as part of the New Holland Water Line as designed by C.R.T. Kraijenhoff and initially constructed from 1815 by him, Jan Blanken and Major-Engineer Willem Offerhaus and subsequently strengthened and improved by others for approximately 125 years.
