Inleiding

Description
Introduction
As a country house / summer residence built 'VILLA Henriëtte' with UNDERGROUND PASSAGE, now part of the 'NCRV-buildings' complex. Built in 1896 in picturesque eclectic style with influence of the chalet style. The house was built by order of J. Ter Meulen as a summer residence according to designs by the architects A.L. and J.G. van Gendt in the Hilversum Susannapark. Villa Henriëtte was built as one of the first country houses in the park, and fulfilled a gateway function because of its strategic location on the highest point of the (at that time still largely undeveloped) park, which forms part of the nationally protected village view 'Noordwestelijk Villagebied'. After the broadcasting association NCRV purchased the building in 1936, the property served as a radio studio until 1939 and thereafter had an office function. With the change of function the main entrance was relocated from the south to the north facade. Villa Henriëtte lies together with the NCRV studio buildings and associated bicycle shed in spacious grounds with lawn at the corner of the Schuttersweg and the Bergweg. In the west facade of Villa Henriëtte, the stained glass window was reconstructed to its historical appearance during restoration/renovation in the year 2000. At the same time the papier-mâché stucco ceiling in the space next to the original main entrance was reconstructed.

Furthermore the facades are fitted with ornamental wall anchors and natural stone elements such as a belt course and neck and corner stones. In the gable ends and in other places coloured decorative brickwork in geometric patterns and timber framing and boarding are applied. Predominantly straight closed windows and doors of varying format and arrangement, partly under arched stretches with decorative brickwork. South facade with centrally positioned semi-circular tower attachment under steep hipped roof, in which the original main entrance was formerly located. To the right of the stairlight at ground floor level a moulded brick arch frieze on natural stone corbels and above it a T-window with sash frame and three-light fanlight. The belt course above the arch frieze terminates on the left in a natural stone ornamental vase. On the left of the east facade a five-sided moulded oriel section under a hipped roof with red crossed pantiles. The first floor of the oriel is executed with timber framing and coloured decorative brickwork. In the central axis double glass doors, on the first floor to a balcony with wrought iron railing on consoles, and on the sloping sides sash windows. To the right of the oriel a composite frame with opening doors and above it a fixed sash with fanlight. Slightly raised central axis under a vaulted gable-end roof with attic window in the gable end with timber framing and decorative brickwork. The gable end of the central risalito on the north facade - containing the current main entrance - is fitted with decorative brickwork and timber framing as on the other facades. In the middle the raised entrance with double panelled door and three-light fanlight between two side lights. On the first floor two T-windows with sash frames and in the gable end a three-part window. The facade sections on either side of the central risalito each have one window axis, on the right the first-floor storey is executed with timber framing and decorative brickwork. On either side of the flight of steps to the present main entrance two cuckoo structures with moulded staircases to the basement.
