Introduction

FORT KEEPER'S DWELLING as a residence situated on the Fort at Jutphaas for the keeper and manager of the site and buildings. Because most forts and other defensive works (situated outside built-up areas) - when there was no question of mobilization or exercises - had no garrison of military personnel, in many cases there was a separate dwelling or other type of accommodation for a manager or watcher. Sometimes such a dwelling or accommodation also had another function, such as that of a lock keeper's dwelling or bridge keeper's house. Description

The FORT KEEPER'S DWELLING on the Fort at Jutphaas is a single-storey brick structure on a relatively long, rectangular plan (approximately 15x5m) and is covered by a gabled roof clad with muffled tiles and ending with simple wind-tiles. On the southwest side, an authentic flat-roofed extension stretches along half the length of the building.
