Cluster 52. Bergplaats (gebouw C).
NIEUWE HOLLANDSE WATERLINIE
Inleiding
BERGPLAATS (gebouw C), als aardgedekt, bomvrij bouwwerk, dat in een tweede bouwfase is toegevoegd aan de oorspronkelijk als verdedigbaar aardwerk aangelegde batterij aan de noordzijde van de Overeindseweg en Overeindsewetering. De aan de zuidwestzijde van de batterij gesitueerde bergplaats heeft het karakter van een magazijn of remise. Het gebouw had een vergelijkbare pendant op de zuidelijke batterij. Dit gebouw (gebouw D) is bij het opruimen van de zuidelijke batterij verdwenen.
Omschrijving
Zuidoostelijk van bet wachtgebouw op de batterij gelegen, laat-19de-eeuwse, bomvrije BERGPLAATS (gebouw C) van trasbeton, bestaande uit een ruimte achter een recht betonnen front met aflopende vleugelmuren. Voor de gevel is een betonnen laag gezet. In het midden bevindt zich een getoogde dubbele deur. De overige gevels en het dak zijn aangeaard.
Waardering
De BERGPLAATS (gebouw C) is van algemeen belang vanwege:
* Cultuurhistorische waarden als onderdeel van de Nieuwe Hollandse Waterlinie zoals deze is ontworpen door C.R.T. Kraijenhoff en in eerste aanleg vanaf 1815 door hem, Jan Blanken en majoor-ingenieur Willem Offerhaus is gerealiseerd en daarna door anderen gedurende ongeveer 125 jaar is versterkt en verbeterd.
* Architectuurhistorische waarden, in het bijzonder als uiting van de militair-strategische bouwkunde, die gebaseerd is op: a. het systeem van inundatie en accesverdediging (19de eeuw), b. de wedloop met de zich versterkende offensieve middelen (19de eeuw).
Het betreft hier een onderdeel uit het laatste kwart van de 19de eeuw, namelijk een voorbeeld van een met aarde gedekt, bomvrij gebouw.
* Ensemblewaarden en situationele waarden als onderdeel van de Nieuwe Hollandse Waterlinie. Tevens vanwege de functionele en fysieke samenhang met de overige onderdelen van het complex.
* Het onderdeel is representatief (karakteristiek) omdat het in verschijningsvorm de kenmerken vertoont die het toenmalige defensieve doel onderstrepen.
* Het onderdeel is goed bewaard omdat het in de loop der tijd weinig wezenlijke aanpassingen heeft ondergaan en het de oorspronkelijke structuur heeft behouden.

NEW HOLLAND WATERLINE
Introduction
BERGPLAATZ (building C), as an earth-covered, bomb-proof building, which was added in a second construction phase to the battery originally laid out as a defendable earthwork on the north side of the Overeindseweg and Overeindsewetering. The bergplaats situated on the southwest side of the battery has the character of a magazine or remise. The building had a similar counterpart on the southern battery. This building (building D) disappeared when the southern battery was cleared.
Description
Situated southeast of the guardhouse on the battery, late-19th-century, bomb-proof BERGPLAATS (building C) of tuff concrete, consisting of a space behind a straight concrete front with sloping wing walls. A concrete layer has been placed in front of the facade. In the middle there is a vaulted double door. The other facades and the roof are earth-covered.
Valuation
The BERGPLAATS (building C) is of general importance because of:
* Cultural-historical values as part of the New Holland Waterline as designed by C.R.T. Kraijenhoff and initially realised from 1815 by him, Jan Blanken and Major-Engineer Willem Offerhaus and subsequently strengthened and improved by others over approximately 125 years.
* Architectural-historical values, in particular as an expression of military-strategic building art, which is based on: a. the system of inundation and access defence (19th century), b. the race with increasingly powerful offensive means (19th century).
