Onderdeel 25. Gedenknaald.
GEDENKNAALD behorende tot de historische buitenplaats Soestdijk. In de as van het paleis, aan het eind van de Koningslaan staat een gedenknaald ter ere van de prins van Oranje en zijn overwinning bij Quatre-Bras. De gedenknaald is het resultaat van een prijsvraag (waaraan ook J.D. Zocher meedeed), die werd gewonnen door Abraham van der Hart, stadsbouwmeester te Amsterdam. Onder de directie van architect J. de Greef en later Z. Reijers werd het plan aangepast (vergroot en vereenvoudigd) en in 1815 opgetrokken. De gedenknaald heeft een hoogte van ca. 25 meter en is opgebouwd uit een gemetselde fundering, een kegelvormig talud van Escauzijnse hardsteenplaten, een kubus van Bentheimer zandsteen versierd met ronde witmarmeren platen en daarop de obelisk eveneens van Bentheimer zandsteen. In het talud zit een trap (6 treden) aan de zijde van de Koningslaan. De marmeren platen aan de vier zijden dragen een inscriptie in vier verschillende talen (Nederlands, Latijn, Engels en Frans), de rand wordt gevormd door een in het marmer uitgehakte slang als teken van eeuwigheid. De obelisk is halverwege versierd met een zespuntige ster en het jaartal MDCCCXV (alles van verguld metaal) en vlak onder de top bevindt zich een lauwerkrans aan alle zijden. Rondom het talud staat hardstenen paaltjes. Rondom het terrein staat een smeedijzeren hek op een gemetselde ringmuur. Dit dateert uit het midden van de 19de eeuw. Het hek is opgebouwd uit spiesen en lansen, aan de westzijde een toegang. De oorspronkelijke kleurstelling van het hek was zwart met vergulde punten.
Waardering
GEDENKNAALD van algemeen belang:
- vanwege de cultuurhistorische waarde in het bijzonder de herinnering aan een belangrijke periode uit de vaderlandse geschiedenis en de wijze van tot standkoming door middel van een prijsvraag;

Component 25. Memorial Obelisk.
MEMORIAL OBELISK belonging to the historic country estate Soestdijk. In the axis of the palace, at the end of the Koningslaan stands a memorial obelisk in honour of the Prince of Orange and his victory at Quatre-Bras. The memorial obelisk is the result of a design competition (in which J.D. Zocher also participated), which was won by Abraham van der Hart, city architect of Amsterdam. Under the direction of architect J. de Greef and later Z. Reijers the plan was adapted (enlarged and simplified) and erected in 1815. The memorial obelisk has a height of approximately 25 metres and is constructed of a mortared foundation, a conical talus of Escauzijn hard stone plates, a cube of Bentheim sandstone decorated with round white marble plates and upon it the obelisk likewise of Bentheim sandstone. In the talus is a staircase (6 steps) on the side of the Koningslaan. The marble plates on all four sides bear an inscription in four different languages (Dutch, Latin, English and French), the border is formed by a serpent carved into the marble as a sign of eternity. The obelisk is decorated halfway up with a six-pointed star and the date MDCCCXV (all of gilded metal) and just below the top is a laurel wreath on all sides. Around the talus stand hard stone bollards. Around the area stands a wrought-iron fence on a mortared ring wall. This dates from the middle of the 19th century. The fence is constructed of spikes and lances, on the west side an entrance. The original colouring of the fence was black with gilded points.
