Omschrijving
OMMURING VAN DE COUR MET MUUR BINNENTUIN OP DE COUR (onderdeel 7). De
ommuring bestaat uit:
1) de scheidingsmuur in mergel aan de zuidzijde, waarmee de cour naar de
straat toe wordt afgesloten; 2) de muur in mergel die in het verlengde van
de zuidgevel van de mergelschuur (sinds 1827 behorende bij de aangrenzende
boerderij) in westelijke richting verloopt en hier de boomgaard aan de
noordzijde afsluit, en 3) uit de muur in mergel die in het verlengde van de
oostmuur van het poortgebouw als balustrade eveneens ter afsluiting van de
boomgaard in noordelijke richting verloopt. De muur aan de zuidzijde dateert
uit de periode 1740-1756, het tijdvak waarin het hoofdgebouw werd
opgetrokken. Deze muur, die op ca. 1,5 meter naar boven zich een stukje
verjongt, word door afdekplaten in mergel afgesloten en sluit tevens het erf
af van de aangrenzende boerderij, die tot 1827 tot 't Gasthuis heeft
behoort. In het gedeelte van de muur behorende bij de boerderij zit een
kruisvormig wapen met het jaartal 1728. Omstreeks 1900 werd een stukje van
het erf van de in 1827 vervreemde boerderij teruggekocht en werd op dit
terrein de huidige boomgaard aangelegd. Het aan de noordzijde van de
boomgaard gelegen deel van de oorspronkelijke scheidingsmuur (afgesloten met
afdekplaten in mergel) kent sinds omstreeks 1950 een trapsgewijze verjonging
in westelijke richting. Deze verjonging werd aangebracht vanwege het
decoratieve effect. De muur in mergel aan de oostzijde van de boomgaard, die
tevens de cour van 't Gasthuis afsluit naar het erf van de ernaast gelegen
boerderij, is opgetrokken in de tweede helft van de jaren 90 van de 20ste
eeuw en maakt geen deel uit van de bescherming. Voor de redengevende

Waardering
De OMMURING VAN DE COUR MET MUUR BINNENTUIN OP DE COUR van de historische
buitenplaats 't Gasthuis is in cultuurhistorisch opzicht van algemeen belang
vanwege:

Description
ENCLOSURE OF THE COURTYARD WITH WALL INNER GARDEN ON THE COURTYARD (component 7). The enclosure consists of:
1) the dividing wall in marl on the south side, which closes off the courtyard towards the street; 2) the wall in marl which runs in the extension of the south gable of the marl barn (belonging to the adjacent farmhouse since 1827) in a westerly direction and here closes off the orchard on the north side, and 3) the wall in marl which runs in the extension of the east wall of the gate building as a balustrade also for closure of the orchard in a northerly direction. The wall on the south side dates from the period 1740-1756, the period in which the main building was constructed. This wall, which tapers slightly at around 1.5 metres in height, is finished with marl coping slabs and also encloses the yard from the adjacent farmhouse, which belonged to 't Gasthuis until 1827. In the section of the wall belonging to the farmhouse is a cross-shaped coat of arms with the date 1728. Around 1900 a section of the yard of the farmhouse alienated in 1827 was repurchased and the current orchard was laid out on this land. The part of the original dividing wall located on the north side of the orchard (finished with marl coping slabs) has had a stepped taper in a westerly direction since around 1950. This tapering was introduced for decorative effect. The wall in marl on the east side of the orchard, which also closes off the courtyard of 't Gasthuis towards the yard of the adjacent farmhouse, was constructed in the second half of the 1990s and does not form part of the protection.
