TUINMANSWONING behorende bij de historische buitenplaats Rust en Vreugd. Op de plaats van een 'Chinese tempel', gebouwd in de tijd dat dit parkdeel nog bij Oud-Wassenaar hoorde, werd in 1907 als onderdeel van de aanleg en entree tot Rust en Vreugd een tuinmanswoning in chaletstijl opgetrokken naar ontwerp van Z. Hoek en J.Th. Wouters (in opdracht van Ph. van Ommeren). Dit ornamentele chalet vertegenwoordigt ook in de parkaanleg van Oud-Wassenaer een grote beeldbepalende waarde. Gelijktijdig werd aan de Oud Wassenaarseweg 19 een portierswoning opgetrokken in vergelijkbare stijl en door dezelfde architect. Op rechthoekig, verspringend plattegrond opgetrokken woonhuis in vakwerk bestaande uit twee bouwlagen en een met pannen gedekt samengesteld zadeldak. Overstekken. Verschillende schoorstenen. De gevels zijn ingedeeld met meerruitsvensters, kruisvensters met halve luiken en samengestelde vensters - allen met een roedenverdeling. In de rechter zijgevels is de entree gesitueerd; de linker zijgevel is voorzien van een uitgebouwde, meerhoekige erker op een plint met meerruitsvensters. GARDENER'S COTTAGE belonging to the historical country estate Rust en Vreugd. On the site of a 'Chinese temple', built at the time when this part of the park still belonged to Oud-Wassenaar, a gardener's cottage in chalet style was erected in 1907 as part of the layout and entrance to Rust en Vreugd according to a design by Z. Hoek and J.Th. Wouters (commissioned by Ph. van Ommeren). This ornamental chalet also represents a major defining value in the park layout of Oud-Wassenaar. At the same time, a porter's lodge was erected at Oud Wassenaarseweg 19 in a comparable style and by the same architect.
