Omschrijving onderdeel 31: BUSKRUITMAGAZIJN, B9-B10 (106)
Inleiding
Voormalig BUSKRUITMAGAZIJN Gebouw B9-B10 (106), onderdeel van de Artillerie-Inrichtingen, daterend uit 1914/1915. Volgens de ontwerptekening waren oorspronkelijk ook een patroonfabriek en een vuurwerkerij in het gebouw ondergebracht. B9 en B10 vormen vanaf de bouw één geheel en stonden toen geregistreerd als Gebouw 106. Het gebouw is vrij gelegen in oost-west richting. Gebouw B9-B10 maakt deel uit van het B-cluster (de B staat voor Beproeving) dat voor het merendeel bestaat uit testgebouwen voor munitie. Meer in het bijzonder hoort B9-B10 bij de naastgelegen gebouwen B11 en B12, voorheen respectievelijk bewaarplaatsen voor springstoffen en monsters. Bij het beproeven van munitie dreigde altijd ontploffingsgevaar. Om het overslaan van ontploffingen en/of brand tegen te gaan zijn bij het B-cluster aarden wallen en het zgn. Reigersbos oftewel schokbos aangelegd om losvliegend materiaal op te vangen. Dit buskruitmagazijn is zelfs aan drie zijdes omringd door een aarden wal. Meteen bij de bouw werd ook een uitvoerig netwerk van bliksemafleiders aangelegd dat moest voorkomen dat de bliksem insloeg, maar daarvan rest thans niet veel meer. De aanwezige waterlopen moesten voorkomen dat brand oversloeg en leverden bluswater.
Omschrijving
Het gebouw heeft een rechthoekige plattegrond van 10.70 x 16 meter en telt een bouwlaag maar twee zadeldaken afgedekt met bitumen. Het gebouw is opgetrokken in baksteen. De muren zijn gemetseld in staand verband. Aan alle gevels is een behoorlijke plint toegevoegd. De vensteropeningen in de gevels zijn thans dichtgemetseld. De luiken zijn verdwenen, maar de duimen zijn nog aanwezig. In de gevels zijn (recent) groengeschilderde dubbele deuren aangebracht die toegang tot het interieur verschaffen.
Het interieur bestaat uit vier rechthoekige ruimtes van gelijke grootte, die twee aan twee gelegen gescheiden worden door een centrale corridor. Opvallende elementen zijn de ventilatieluiken.
Waardering
Het voormalig BUSKRUITMAGAZIJN B9-B10 is van cultuurhistorische en - meer in het bijzonder - militair-historische waarde als uniek en gaaf bewaard gebleven magazijn voor buskruit. Het gebouw is tevens van groot belang als historisch-functioneel onderdeel van het Hembrugterrein en de Stelling van Amsterdam in het algemeen alsmede van het B(eproevings)-cluster in het bijzonder.

Introduction
Former GUNPOWDER MAGAZINE Building B9-B10 (106), part of the Artillery Facilities, dating from 1914/1915. According to the design drawing, a cartridge factory and a pyrotechnics workshop were originally also housed in the building. B9 and B10 have formed a single unit since construction and were then registered as Building 106. The building is freely situated in an east-west direction. Building B9-B10 forms part of the B-cluster (the B stands for Testing) which largely consists of test buildings for ammunition. More specifically, B9-B10 belongs with the adjacent buildings B11 and B12, formerly respectively storage facilities for explosives and samples. When testing ammunition there was always a risk of explosion. To prevent the spread of explosions and/or fire, earthen embankments and the so-called Reigersbos or shock wood were constructed at the B-cluster to catch flying debris. This gunpowder magazine is even surrounded by an earthen embankment on three sides. At the time of construction, an extensive network of lightning conductors was also installed to prevent lightning strikes, but little of it now remains. The existing watercourses were meant to prevent fire from spreading and provided water for extinguishing.
Description
The building has a rectangular floor plan of 10.70 x 16 metres and comprises one storey but two gabled roofs covered with bitumen. The building is constructed in brick. The walls are laid in stretcher bond. A substantial plinth has been added to all facades. The window openings in the facades are now bricked up. The shutters have disappeared, but the sill stones are still present. (Recently) green-painted double doors have been fitted in the facades providing access to the interior.
The interior consists of four rectangular rooms of equal size, which are separated two by two by a central corridor. Notable elements are the ventilation hatches.
Valuation
The former GUNPOWDER MAGAZINE B9-B10 is of cultural-historical and - more specifically - military-historical value as a unique and well-preserved magazine for gunpowder. The building is also of great importance as a historical-functional component of the Hembrug site and the Amsterdam Defence Line in general as well as the B(Testing)-cluster in particular.
