The register's description

Voorts gevelstenen o.a.

- vanwege de ruimtelijke en functionele relatie met het kasteel;

- vanwege architectuurhistorische waarden.

Description of component 2: FARMYARD and FORECOURT.

Farmyard at castle Mheer, located along the east, west, and south sides of the forecourt, dating from the 17th century. The three wings of the farmyard are connected to each other in a U-shape, but stand at some distance from the castle. Against the northeast gable and at the southeast corner stands a tower. The access to the forecourt is located in the eastern wing. The round-arched access is accentuated by a rich top gable structure in Maaslandic curled work. On the courtyard side this top is simpler in execution. The access route continues across the forecourt to a second, simple round-arched gateway in the opposite western wing. The basement/cellar of the farmyard is built in natural stone. This shows itself most on the outside. The outside is characterized by large height differences. The rising masonry on the outside is almost completely closed with only a few windows and loopholes.

The inside of the farmyard presents a more regular image of up to two storeys of facades built in brick with slate-covered hipped roofs with small roof lights. The gable divisions are more or less regular and show on the ground floor an alternation of windows and round-arched access and stable doors and a series of larger and smaller windows on the upper storey. The framing of windows and door sections is of natural stone.

The gateway passage in the eastern wing is the richest executed on the field side. The gate arch is clad with natural stone with rustication. Above this is an upper storey with a monumental gable top laid out in masonry. Natural stone is here applied among other things as banding courses, along the edges and for the curled work. Furthermore gable stones including one from 1612 with the coat of arms of Winand van Imstenraedt and his wife Mechteld van den Bongart. The execution of the gateway passage and the gable top is somewhat simpler on the courtyard side.

The northeast gable of the eastern wing of the farmyard is not straight as on the opposite side, but built at a very sharp angle. On the courtyard side stands a spiral tower. Like the gateway, this gable is also crowned by curled work in Maaslandic style with accents in natural stone work.

The wings of the farmyard enclose a spacious forecourt; this is partly paved and partly of loam. The courtyard is intersected by the connecting path between the drive and the lane to the lands. On the south side lies the manure pit with adjoining it a lawn with topiary yew trees at the corners.

Valuation

The FARMYARD and the FORECOURT are of general cultural-historical importance:

- on account of the spatial and functional relationship with the castle;

- on account of architectural-historical values.
