Inleiding
Zuidelijk GARAGEGEBOUW van het complex Maastunnel op de linker Maasoever, gelegen aan de rand van het Karel de Stouteplein ten zuidwesten van de tunneltraverse. De oprit maakt een hoek van 45 graden met de tunnelas. Het gebouw is vergelijkbaar vormgegeven als het garagegebouw aan de noordzijde van de tunnel.
Omschrijving
Het zuidelijke GARAGEGEBOUW, waarin tijdelijk een brandweerkazerne was gesitueerd, is iets ruimer dan zijn noordelijke pendant op de Rechter Maasoever. Het gebouw is op een waaiervormige plattegrond geconstrueerd in gewapend beton en gefundeerd op palen van Oregon-pine. Het deels onderkelderde gebouw telt gedeeltelijk twee bouwlagen, waarvan de verdieping wordt afgesloten door een laag koperen schilddak en het garagedeel van de begane grond (noordelijk deel) een plat dak heeft. De begane grond is bekleed met oranjebruine grestegels, de verdieping is wit gepleisterd. De deuren en de kozijnen zijn van metaal. In de noordgevel, gericht op de Maastunnel, bevinden zich, in plaats van twee zoals in het noordelijke garagegebouw, drie garagedeuren, eveneens onder een iets omhoog lopende betonnen luifel.

Zuidelijk GARAGEGEBOUW als historisch-functioneel onderdeel van het Maastunnelcomplex van algemeen belang vanwege cultuur- en architectuurhistorische waarde, alsook vanwege stedenbouwkundige betekenis.

Introduction
Southern GARAGE BUILDING of the Maastunnel complex on the left bank of the Meuse, located at the edge of the Karel de Stouteplein to the southwest of the tunnel traverse. The ramp makes an angle of 45 degrees with the tunnel axis. The building is similarly designed as the garage building on the north side of the tunnel.
Description
The southern GARAGE BUILDING, in which a fire station was temporarily housed, is slightly larger than its northern counterpart on the Right Meuse Bank. The building is constructed on a fan-shaped floor plan in reinforced concrete and founded on piles of Oregon pine. The partly cellaried building has partially two storeys, of which the upper floor is terminated by a layer of copper hipped roof and the garage section of the ground floor (northern part) has a flat roof. The ground floor is clad with orange-brown glaze tiles, the upper floor is white rendered. The doors and frames are of metal. In the north facade, facing the Maastunnel, there are, instead of two as in the northern garage building, three garage doors, likewise beneath a slightly sloping concrete canopy.
Valuation
Southern GARAGE BUILDING as a historical-functional component of the Maastunnel complex of general importance because of cultural and architectural historical value, as well as because of urban planning significance.
