Inleiding:
De Schele Duiker is gebouwd als damsluis voor civiele doelen met een militaire nevenfunctie. De sluis diende in normale omstandigheden voor de afvoer van water naar de Broekersloot (sinds 1937 het Valleikanaal). De militaire bestemming van de sluis was de aanvoer van water t.b.v. het stellen van inundaties.
Omschrijving:
In 1865 aangelegd WATERWERK, bestaande uit de restanten van een sluis. De sluis is uitgevoerd in metselwerk met deels hardstenen schotbalksponningen en hoekprofielen. Op de damsluis ligt een moderne metalen spoorbrug. De sluis ligt in het Valleikanaal op de plaats waar voor 1937 de Broekersloot lag.
De sluis had een doorstroomopening van 2 meter en 2 x 2 schotbalksponningen. Het westelijk landhoofd van de sluis is verdwenen en de doorstroomopening is dichtgezet met zand.

De Schele Duiker is van algemeen belang vanwege:
Cultuurhistorische waarden als onderdeel van de Grebbelinie, zoals deze in een periode van 200 jaar in zes fasen is aangelegd.
Architectuurhistorische waarden in het bijzonder als uiting van de militair-strategische bouwkunde, die gebaseerd is op:
a. het systeem van inundatie en accesverdediging ( 18de, 19de en 20ste eeuw),
