The register's description

Inleiding:

Introduction:

The casemate was built in 1944 as part of the development of the German Pantherstellung and is situated on the Werk aan de Juffersdijk, south of the Utrecht-Arnhem railway line.

Description:

Defence work constructed in 1944, consisting of a concrete German gun casemate. The casemate was built as part of the development of the German Pantherstellung and was built on the north side of the wall.

This is a flanking concrete casemate. The casemate was armed with a heavy machine gun and was intended for flanking fire. The enemy side is covered by 1.20 m of reinforced concrete, while the roof is 1 metre thick and the rear 80 cm. The firing loophole with a field of fire of 40 degrees is covered by a concrete projection, so that the opening was difficult for the enemy to perceive. The door was equipped with a rifle loophole. The casemate has a rectangular floor plan with dimensions of 4.5 by 3.45 metres, excluding a projecting foundation edge of 0.2 metres. The height of the casemate is 3.30 metres including floor slab. Bevels have been made around the perimeter of the roof to deflect shells.

Valuation:

The casemate is of general importance on account of:

Cultural-historical value owing to its commemorative value on account of its function in the German defence measures during the final phase of the Second World War.

Architectural-historical value in particular as an expression of the fortifications of the German Pantherstellung, as constructed in 1944.

Ensemble value owing to the functional-spatial relationship to the other components of the Grebbelinie, as it was progressively shaped during the period between 1744 and 1944.
