Inleiding:
De damsluis bij het Werk aan de Engelaar is in 1865 gebouwd ter vervanging van een eerder gebouwde houten verlaat. De sluis diende voor de regulering en doorvoer van het inundatiewater naar de noordelijk gelegen inundatiekommen van de Grebbelinie. Door de damsluis te sluiten kon het water in de Lunterse Beek worden opgezet ten behoeve van de inundatie van de 2e of Groepse kom.
Omschrijving:
In 1865 aangelegd WATERWERK, bestaande uit een damsluis. De Damsluis is uitgevoerd in metselwerk met deels hardstenen schotbalksponningen en hoekprofielen. De sluis is voorzien van een moderne stuwvoorziening met bijbehorende moderne machinekast. De afmetingen van de damsluis zijn 10, 5 bij 10 meter inclusief de twee landhoofden. De sluis heeft een doorstroomopening van 5 meter breed met aan de oostzijde een 2 x 2 schotbalksponningen.

De damsluis is van algemeen belang vanwege:
Cultuurhistorische waarden als onderdeel van de Grebbelinie, zoals deze in een periode van 200 jaar in zes fasen is aangelegd.
Architectuurhistorische waarden in het bijzonder als uiting van de militair-strategische bouwkunde, die gebaseerd is op:
a. het systeem van inundatie en accesverdediging (18de, 19de en 20ste eeuw),
