Inleiding:
De Roffelaarskade is een komkering van een waterlinie annex verdedigingswal en maakt als zodanig deel uit van de Grebbelinie. Hij diende als komkering tussen de 4e of Roffelaarskom en de 5e of Aschatterkom. De Roffelaarskade is gelegen in de gemeente Woudenberg tussen de Grebbeliniedijk ten noordoosten van de dorpskern van Woudenberg en de Voskuilerdijk.
Omschrijving:
Tussen 1742 en 1745 aangelegd aarden VERDEDIGINGSWERK, bestaande uit een aarden wal. De kade is aangelegd als steunkade voor de inundaties en als verdedigingswal. De huidige kade is ongeveer 1000 meter lang. De oorspronkelijke lengte was ca. 1600 meter. De kade wordt doorsneden door een verharde doorgaande weg. Op de Roffelaarskade bevinden zich zeven grenspalen met de inscripties O25, O29, O32, O68, O74, O80 en O81.
Waardering:
De aanleg is van algemeen belang vanwege:
Cultuurhistorische waarden als onderdeel van de Grebbelinie, zoals deze in een periode van 200 jaar in zes fasen is aangelegd. Van groot belang door de herinneringswaarde vanwege de rol tijdens de gevechtshandelingen in 1939-1940. Met name is de kade ook van belang als voorbeeld van een 18e eeuwse keerkade of komkring.
Architectuurhistorische waarden in het bijzonder als uiting van de militair-strategische bouwkunde, die gebaseerd is op:
a. het systeem van inundatie en accesverdediging ( 18de, 19de en 20ste eeuw), b. het systeem van 'levende' veldversterking in de diepte (20ste eeuw) c. de voorpostfunctie tijdens de mobilisatie en oorlogshandelingen 1939 - 1940
Het betreft hier een complex dat in eerste aanleg een voorbeeld is van verdedigingswerken uit de periode:
fase 1: vanaf 1744, aanleg liniedijk en werken
Ensemble waarde vanwege zijn ligging binnen het systeem van de Grebbelinie in het algemeen, in het bijzonder als nog gaaf bewaarde komkade bij de liniedijk tussen het Werk aan de Roode Haan en de kern van de gemeente Leusden. Tevens vanwege de functionele en fysieke samenhang van de onderdelen van het complex. Tenslotte is hier sprake van een gave/redelijk gave relatie met het schootsveld en inundatieveld
Het complex is zeldzaam omdat het een nog vrijwel compleet bestaand voorbeeld is van een 18e eeuws verdedigingswerk in de Grebbelinie en het is als zodanig representatief (karakteristiek) voor dit type verdedigingswerken.
Het complex is goed bewaard omdat nog vrijwel alle ertoe behorende onderdelen in meer of minder herkenbare vorm en functie aanwezig zijn.
