Inleiding:
De damsluis bij de Asschatterkade is bestemd voor de regulatie van de waterafvoer in het Valleikanaal. In het inundatiestelsel van de Grebbelinie diende de damsluis voor het doorlaten van water van de 5e of Asschatterkom naar de 6e of Voetpadkom en het zo nodig keren van het water uit de Moosterbeek (na 1937 Valleikanaal). Op deze plaats waar vroeger de Moosterbeek de kade doorsneed lag al eerder een damsluis uit 1865. Bij de aanleg van het Valleikanaal is het tracé van de Moosterbeek ingrijpend gewijzigd. Daarbij is deze eerste damsluis verdwenen.
Omschrijving:
In 1937 aangelegd WATERWERK, uitgevoerd in gewapend beton met deels hardstenen schotbalksponningen en hoekprofielen. De sluis is voorzien van een moderne stuw in de beide doorlaatopeningen en van twee moderne machinekasten. Boven de sluis ligt een voetbrug van beton.
De damsluis heeft een oppervlakte van maximaal 11,0 bij 14,5 meter inclusief landhoofden. Er zijn twee doorstroomopeningen van elk 3,50 meter breed, gescheiden door een middenpenant van 4,0 bij 1,0 meter.
Waardering:
De damsluis is van algemeen belang vanwege:
Cultuurhistorische waarden als onderdeel van de Grebbelinie, zoals deze in een periode van 200 jaar in zes fasen is aangelegd.
Architectuurhistorische waarden in het bijzonder als uiting van de militair-strategische bouwkunde, die gebaseerd is op:
