Inleiding:
Het Werk aan de Glashut is een verdedigingswerk van de Grebbelinie, gelegen bij de Grebbeliniedijk tussen de weg Amersfoort-Hoogland en de Eem. Het werk is in 1799 aangelegd ten behoeve van de verdediging van de Glashutterkade en de achtergelegen damsluis. De Glashutterkade, die diende als komkering tussen de 8e of Glashutkom en de 9e of Coelhorsterkom, is na de opheffing van de linie verdwenen.
Omschrijving:
In 1799 aangelegd aarden VERDEDIGINGSWERK. Het werk bestaat uit een omwerking van de liniedijk tot een verdedigingswerk met twee onregelmatig gevormde bastions. Het werk heeft een oppervlakte van ongeveer 340 bij 220 meter, inclusief de grachten. Op het werk staat nog een grenspaal met als opschrift O108. Deze paal staat echter niet meer op de oorspronkelijke plek.
Het werk bestaat uit de volgende onderdelen:
1. Aanleg van een aarden verdedigingswerk 2. Twee kazematten van het type S3 3. Een kazemat van het type B.
Waardering:
De aanleg is van algemeen belang vanwege:
Cultuurhistorische waarden als onderdeel van de Grebbelinie, zoals deze in een periode van 200 jaar in zes fasen is aangelegd.
Architectuurhistorische waarden in het bijzonder als uiting van de militair-strategische bouwkunde, die gebaseerd is op:
a. het systeem van inundatie en accesverdediging (18de, 19de en 20ste eeuw), b. het systeem van 'levende' veldversterking in de diepte (20ste eeuw) c. de voorpostfunctie tijdens de mobilisatie en oorlogshandelingen 1939 - 1940
Het betreft hier een complex dat in eerste aanleg een voorbeeld is van verdedigingswerken uit de periode:
fase 4: 1799, versterking Franse Tijd
Ensemble waarde vanwege zijn ligging binnen het systeem van de Grebbelinie in het algemeen, in het bijzonder als onderdeel van de nog gaaf bewaarde liniedijk tussen de Jachthaven bij de Eem en Werk bij Krachtwijk. Tevens vanwege de functionele en fysieke samenhang van de onderdelen van het complex.
