Inleiding:
De Grebbelinie is een waterlinie van ca. 60 kilometer lengte, die gebruik maakt van de natte omstandigheden in de westelijke, laagst gelegen deel van de Gelderse Vallei. Het is een uniek voorbeeld van een aanleg van een waterlinie uit de achttiende eeuw. Doordat sindsdien geen grote ingrepen hebben plaatsgevonden in de structuur van de linie is het grootste deel van de liniewal, de keerkaden en de aarden verdedigingswerken bewaard gebleven. Dit gedeelte van de liniedijk is gelegen in de gemeente Amersfoort. Het wordt aan de noordzijde begrensd door de het Werk bij Krachtwijk.
Omschrijving:
In 1745 en 1746 aangelegd aarden VERDEDIGINGSWERK, bestaande uit een aarden wal, aangelegd als verdedigingswal. Dit gedeelte van de liniedijk is ongeveer 5.000 meter lang. De dijk is niet overal onder profiel, maar de contouren zijn goed herkenbaar. Op dit deel van de liniedijk bevinden zich twee grenspalen, één met het opschrift O29 en één met het opschrift O152
Waardering:
De aanleg is van algemeen belang vanwege:
Cultuurhistorische waarden als onderdeel van de Grebbelinie, zoals deze in een periode van 200 jaar in zes fasen is aangelegd. Van groot belang door de herinneringswaarde vanwege de rol tijdens de gevechtshandelingen in 1939-1940.
Architectuurhistorische waarden in het bijzonder als uiting van de militair-strategische bouwkunde, die gebaseerd is op:
a. het systeem van inundatie en accesverdediging (18de, 19de en 20ste eeuw), b. het systeem van 'levende' veldversterking in de diepte (20ste eeuw) c. de voorpostfunctie tijdens de mobilisatie en oorlogshandelingen 1939 - 1940
Het betreft hier een complex dat in eerste aanleg een voorbeeld is van verdedigingswerken uit de periode:
fase 1: vanaf 1744, aanleg liniedijk en werken
Ensemble waarde vanwege de functioneel-ruimtelijke relatie tot de overige onderdelen van de Grebbelinie, in het bijzonder als onderdeel van de nog gaaf bewaarde liniedijk tussen de Jachthaven bij de Eem en het Werk bij Krachtwijk. Tevens vanwege de functionele en fysieke samenhang van de onderdelen van het complex.
Tenslotte is bij dit gedeelte van de liniedijk voor een groot deel sprake van een gave/redelijk gave relatie met het schootsveld en inundatieveld
De liniedijk is zeldzaam omdat het een nog vrijwel compleet bestaand voorbeeld is van een 18e eeuws verdedigingswerk in de Grebbelinie en het is als zodanig representatief (karakteristiek) voor dit type verdedigingswerken.
