Inleiding
Vanaf 1863 ontwikkelde Amersfoort zich als spoorwegstad. Verschillende van de destijds bestaande spoorwegondernemingen legden hier spoorlijnen aan met bijbehorende dienstgebouwen. Oorspronkelijk was het Wagenbedrijf Amersfoort (WBA) een 'wagenmakerij' van de toenmalige Hollandse IJzeren Spoorwegmaatschappij (HIJSM) die dit terrein in 1904 als zodanig in gebruik nam. Deze spoorwegmaatschappij werd later onderdeel van de Nederlandse Spoorwegen (NS) die het terrein verder inrichtte en ontwikkelde voor het onderhoud, revisie en het ombouwen van goederenwagons. Na 1996 volgde de verzelfstandiging van het bedrijf tot NS-dochter Nedtrain. In 2000 werd het echter alweer gesloten. Het terrein is gelegen tussen het Station Amersfoort aan de zuidzijde en het Soesterkwartier aan de noordzijde. Het is ca. 1,5 km lang en 300 m breed. De gebouwen liggen centraal op het terrein aan de zijde van het Soesterkwartier alwaar zich ook de oorspronkelijke toegang met portiersloge bevindt. Voorts is op het terrein een aantal gebouwen met andere functies aanwezig, zoals een magazijn, een loods voor gereed hout en een rijwielstalling alsmede tal van spoorvoorzieningen zoals bundels opstelsporen, wissels en stootblokken. De rolbanen zijn in 1928 aangelegd en daarna nog verscheidene malen gemoderniseerd. In het hoofdgebouw bevonden zich oorspronkelijk nog twee rolbanen.
Omschrijving
Aan de oostzijde en westzijde van het hoofdgebouw ligt een stalen ROLBAAN (complexonderdeel 5A en 5B). Dit is een werktuig bedoeld om wagons te vervoeren zonder dat hier rangeersporen aan te pas komen. De rolbaan zelf wordt bewogen over een x-as en bestaat uit een bak waarin een spoor in y-as richting ligt. Aan één zijde van de bak is een perronachtige verhoging. Hierop staat een machinistenhuisje van waaruit de bewegingen van de rolbaan kunnen worden geregeld. De bak met het y-as spoor sluit aan op verschillende y-as sporen, die uitkomen bij de diverse gebouwen. Het treinstel kon zo worden getransporteerd.
Waardering
De ROLBANEN met aansluitende sporen zijn van algemeen belang, vanwege:

Introduction
From 1863 onwards, Amersfoort developed as a railway town. Various railway enterprises that existed at the time laid railway lines here with associated service buildings. Description
On the east side and west side of the main building is a steel ROLLER CONVEYOR (complex component 5A and 5B). This is a device intended to transport wagons without the use of shunting tracks.
