Omschrijving onderdeel 2
Waardering
De HISTORISCHE PARK- EN TUINAANLEG is van algemeen belang:
- wegens de aanwezigheid van 17de-eeuwse formele elementen in de aanleg die in het landschapspark zijn opgenomen;
- als een fraai voorbeeld van een landschappelijke aanleg uit het begin van de 19de eeuw in samenhang met het uit dezelfde tijd stammende hoofdgebouw (thans ruïne);
- als voorbeeld van het oeuvre van Hendrik van Lunteren;
- wegens de deels bewaard gebleven oorspronkelijke beplanting;
- wegens de karakteristiek afwisseling van open en gesloten ruimtes;
- wegens de bewuste plaatsing van solitairen en clumps (boomgroepen) in vista's vanaf het hoofdgebouw en vanuit de rondlopende lanen;
- wegens het karakteristieke paden- en bekenpatroon;

Description
Description of component 2
HISTORIC PARK AND GARDEN LAYOUT. The historic park of Enghuizen consists of several components. Firstly, there are the remains of the late 17th-century layout such as the long axis running from north to south on which both the 17th-century and the 19th-century house stood; the rectangular vegetable garden terrain to the west of the large pond and the trapezoidal large meadow to the north of it. Secondly, the woodland walks created from the 1830s onwards with curved lanes with accompanying plantings of beeches or oaks, which are intersected by winding paths as a circular walk around the large meadow, as well as between the 19th-century castle site and the steward's house with annexes. The Small Brook runs through the entire site with branches that widen into large and small ponds and narrow again into ditches, crossing the lanes and paths via iron or brick bridges (see component 9 for this). The woodland walks are interspersed with open meadows and cultivated lands. Thirdly, the cultivated and meadow lands on the outside of the woodland walks, planted with solitary trees and copses (groups of trees), which form an essential part of the historic park as deliberately created views from the surrounding lanes.
The park contains the following elements of historic importance, the enumeration of which begins in the north:
- The course of the 17th-century lane which begins at the Broekstraat and (with interruptions) ends at the Spalderkampseweg, with a break at the level of the large pond and the former castle site: the Kasteellaan which after the Zoezebrugge continues as Moslaan. Where it enters the woodland walk, it is planted on both sides with beeches.
- A transverse lane running through the meadows with watercourses on both sides, which at the level of the 17th-century axis has a U-shaped protrusion (the Vierkante Vievers). On the west side the lane bends to the south, where it joins the lane pattern of the northern woodland walk. On the east side it runs onto the Broekstraat.
- The (originally trapezoidal) large meadow (the Steenpas). In the middle of the meadow runs from north to south a hawthorn hedge. The contours of the meadow have been rounded by the placement of advancing and receding tree groups. The meadow is bounded with 19th-century stone bollards (see component 10 for this).
- The rectangular terrain enclosed on three sides with vegetable garden and orangery (see component 3 for this) to the south of the large meadow.
- The woodland walk with curved lanes, winding paths and iron and brick bridges (see component 9 for this) around the large meadow.
- The large pond with island on which garden pavilion (see component 4 for this).
- The open space between the woodland walks to the east of the large pond and to the northeast of the former castle site.
- The originally open terrain to the south of the large pond with the ruin of the 19th-century castle (see component 1 for this), curved lanes and deliberately placed tree groups (copses).
- The woodland walk with curved lanes, winding paths and iron and brick bridges (see component 9 for this) to the southeast of the former castle site.
- The curved approach drive, marked at the beginning and end by white bollards (see component 10 for this) from the Spalderkampseweg, along the remains of the former castle (see component 1 for this), past the carriage house to the N 314.
- The triangular open space to the south of the Spalderkampseweg up to the N 314 with a copse of oaks.
- The water feature with islets between the southeastern woodland walk and the complex of steward's houses/horse stable (see components 6 and 7 for this), called the horse pond.
Valuation
The HISTORIC PARK AND GARDEN LAYOUT is of general importance:
- due to the presence of 17th-century formal elements in the layout which have been incorporated into the landscape park;
- as a fine example of a landscape layout from the early 19th century in connection with the principal building of the same period (now a ruin);
- as an example of the work of Hendrik van Lunteren;
- due to the partly preserved original planting;
- due to the characteristic alternation of open and closed spaces;
- due to the deliberate placement of solitary trees and copses (groups of trees) in vistas from the principal building and from the surrounding lanes;
- due to the characteristic path and brook pattern;
- due to the visual and spatial context in which the buildings have been given a deliberate place.
