Omschrijving
Omschrijving onderdeel 1: HOOFDGEBOUW (Neercanne).
Waardering
Het HOOFDGEBOUW (Neercanne) is van algemeen belang:
- vanwege de ouderdom;
- als representatief voorbeeld van een gaaf bewaard hoofdgebouw in Frans-classicistische stijl;
- vanwege het nagenoeg gaaf bewaarde exterieur en de interieuronderdelen;
- vanwege de situering van het kasteel tegen een bergwand waardoor het als blikvanger en als uitgangspunt van de tuinaanleg fungeert;

Description
Description component 1: MAIN BUILDING (Neercanne).
On the eastern flank of the Cannerberg lies the castle Neercanne, originally dating from the early 17th century, which was built in 1698 by order of Daniel Wolff Baron von Dopff in the French Classicist style using older masonry and acquired its present appearance. The building is executed entirely in marl stone with chimney flues of brick and door and window surrounds of hard stone. French influence is evident in the classical regularity of the facade composition, the use of wooden sash windows, the balconies on the front facade and the fact that the walls of the castle were painted in one colour (ochre yellow).
The front facade facing east is composed symmetrically on both sides of a central risalit with two corner pavilions, of which the southern wing is narrower than the northern wing although the building gives the impression of being entirely symmetrical. The risalit, which in reality does not project forwards but achieves its risaliting effect by means of grooves in the wall surface, is filled by a grand stair before a double entrance door, a first-floor window with balcony and a triangular pediment. In the pediment is a round window light in a richly sculptured tympanum and the date 1698. Originally there were more balconies attached to the facade.
The rear facade is executed simply in comparison with the front, virtually without decoration. Above the central entrance, which is accentuated by a hard stone surround with keystone bearing the coat of arms of Van Dopff, a curved pediment has been placed decorated with the coat of arms of Van Dopff and palm fronds.
The northern side facade is articulated by three window axes, four of the six large multi-light windows are executed as fenêtre de terre, the ironwork is filled with scrollwork. Against the southern facade a small single-storey annexe on rectangular floor plan has been placed.
In the INTERIOR of note are amongst other things the symmetrical arrangement of the rooms with a central hall with a 17th-century staircase provided with the original stairs with handrail and heavy balusters; the ceiling with stucco relief with weapon trophies, chimney breasts of the large rooms decorated with stucco panels with the myth of Venus and Adonis.
Longitudinally extended roof truss structure of the main building dating from the early 17th century built up from heavy rafters with double posts; the roof over the southern wing from the middle of the 17th century, the roof over the northern wing is from 1698.
Valuation
The MAIN BUILDING (Neercanne) is of general importance:
- on account of its age;
- as a representative example of a well-preserved main building in the French Classicist style;
- on account of the virtually well-preserved exterior and interior components;
- on account of the siting of the castle against a steep slope whereby it functions as an eye-catcher and as a starting point of the garden layout;
- on account of the functional-spatial relationship with the other components of the country estate.
