Inleiding
IJzeren ophaalbrug, mogelijk 1894, met jongere betonnen landhoofden (circa 1955) over de Eerste wijk te Ravenswoud. Ontwerper en constructiebedrijf van de ophaalbrug zijn niet bekend. De landhoofden en de stalen buisleuningen dateren van circa 1955. Zij zijn door de firma G. Zondervan te Warga aangebracht bij gelegenheid van de verplaatsing van de brug van het naburige Appelscha naar de huidige plaats. De brug ligt aan de westelijke rand van het verveendersdorp Ravenswoud, ter hoogte van de kruising Compagnonsweg/Bokslootweg. Het dorp - een beschermd gezicht in aanwijzing - maakt deel uit van het jongste hoogveenontginningsgebied van Friesland.
Omschrijving
Ophaalbrug op aardig geprofileerde betonnen onderbouw. IJzeren constructie bestaande uit I-profielen en open vakwerkspanten; vrijstaande ijzeren hameien, ijzeren tandwielkast en tandheugel, dito bloklagers, ijzeren brugstangen en grendels (schieters); slagboom in staander van staalprofiel, lagers met vetpotjes; alle ijzeren onderdelen geklonken; houten brugdek op I-profielen; borstwering in de vorm van stalen buisleuningen.
Waardering
Ophaalbrug met onderbouw is van algemeen cultuurhistorisch, techniekhistorisch en stedenbouwkundig belang:
- vanwege de ouderdom van de verschillende onderdelen;
- vanwege type en materiaalgebruik;
- vanwege de vrij hoge mate van gaafheid;
- vanwege de gebruiksgeschiedenis;
- vanwege de kenmerkende ligging over een waterloop (wijk) in een cultuurhistorisch zeer waardevol hoogveenontginningsgebied;
- vanwege de kenmerkende ligging aan de rand van het beschermde gezicht (in aanwijzing) Ravenswoud;
- als gezichtsbepalende 'poort' naar het zeer hoogwaardige natuurgebied Fochteloërveen.

Introduction
Iron lift bridge, possibly 1894, with younger concrete abutments (circa 1955) over the Eerste wijk at Ravenswoud. The designer and construction company of the lift bridge are not known. The abutments and the steel pipe railings date from circa 1955. They were installed by the firm G. Zondervan at Warga on the occasion of the relocation of the bridge from the nearby Appelscha to its present location. The bridge is situated on the western edge of the peat-diggers' village Ravenswoud, at the junction of Compagnonsweg/Bokslootweg. The village - a protected townscape designation - forms part of Friesland's most recent raised bog exploitation area.

Lift bridge on nicely profiled concrete substructure. Iron construction consisting of I-beams and open lattice trusses; free-standing iron hammerheads, iron gear box and rack, likewise block bearings, iron bridge rods and bolts (shear bolts); boom gate in steel profile post, bearings with grease cups; all iron components riveted; wooden bridge deck on I-beams; parapet in the form of steel pipe railings.
