Inleiding
MOLEN. De ronde stenen molen met de naam 'Mallemolen' is omstreeks 1804 gebouwd als poldermolen voor de bemaling van de Oostpolder van Schieland. Hij was uitgerust met een scheprad als wateropvoerwerktuig en heeft op dezelfde standplaats een voorganger gehad. Vanwege de bouw van een zuiggasgemaal (± 1904) kwam hij buiten dienst, waarna omstreeks 1908 het wiekenkruis, de kap en het gaande werk werden verwijderd. De molen kreeg toen een functie als machinistenwoning, inmiddels veranderd in een meer algemene woonfunctie. De molen ligt aan het eind van een omkade voorboezem waarmee werd uitgemalen op Rijnlands boezem. De molen heeft met name uit het westen gezien nog een beduidende betekenis op de overgang van polderlandschap naar stedelijk gebied. De molenromp is in 2010 gecompleteerd tot maalvaardige schepradmolen.
Omschrijving
De molen bestaat uit de ronde conisch gemetselde bakstenen romp, aan de bovenkant uitgevoerd met een lichte verwijding. De uit vier bouwlagen bestaande molen is over de onderste 3 meter aan de regenzijde bepleisterd en gewit.
Waardering
De molen is van algemeen belang:
- vanwege bouwtechnisch-historische waarden als herkenbaar en representatief ronde stenen poldermolen uit het begin van de 19e eeuw, een zeldzaam type in dit deel van Zuid-Holland;
- vanwege cultuurhistorische waarden als essentieel onderdeel van de ontginnings- en waterstaatkundige geschiedenis van Zuid-Holland en de plaatselijke geschiedenis;
- vanwege de redelijke gaafheid van de molenbiotoop;
- vanwege zijn zeldzaamheid als één van de weinige overgeblevenen van alle poldermolens die in dit deel van Zuid-Holland hebben gestaan, met name ook in oostelijk Schieland;
- vanwege situationele waarden betreffende de belendende waterlopen, met name ook de aanwezigheid van de omkade voorboezem als systeem van uitwatering op een boezem.

Introduction
MILL. The round stone mill with the name 'Mallemolen' was built around 1804 as a polder mill for the drainage of the Oostpolder of Schieland. It was equipped with a scoop wheel as a water-raising device and had a predecessor on the same site. Due to the construction of a suction-gas pumping station (± 1904) it went out of service, after which around 1908 the sails, cap and machinery were removed. The mill then received a function as a millwright's dwelling, since changed to a more general residential function. The mill lies at the end of a surrounding dike forewater basin from which water was pumped into the Rijnlands boezem. The mill has in particular, viewed from the west, considerable significance in the transition from polder landscape to urban area. The mill hull was completed in 2010 to become a working scoop wheel mill.
Description
The mill consists of the round conical mortared brick hull, executed at the top with a slight widening. The mill, consisting of four storeys, is plastered and whitewashed over the lower 3 metres on the weather side.
