Omschrijving onderdeel 1: voormalig stoomgemaal.
Inleiding
Het gemaal Oosterschelde is in 1910 gebouwd. Het werd gesticht als stoomgemaal en functioneerde als zodanig tot 1932. In dat jaar werd verderop een ander gemaal gebouwd. De stoommachine c.a. en de kolenloods zijn geheel verdwenen.
Omschrijving
Het betreft een pand van één bouwlaag op T-vormige plattegrond. De korte zijde van de T wijst naar de dijk en huisvestte de machine. De lange zijde is in het water gebouw boven een tongewelf. De korte zijde heeft een onhistorische bitumineuze dakbedekking, de lange zijde is gedekt met gesmoorde pannen. De gevelopeningen zijn gedeeltelijk nog historisch.
Waardering
Het voormalige stoomgemaal is van algemeen belang vanwege:
- de kenmerkende opbouw (rangschikking van functioneel gerelateerde bouwvolumes) en plaatsing (half op de dijk, half in het water);
- de relatie met schoorsteen en dienstwoning;
- de relatie met de polder die dit gemaal bemaalde.

It concerns a single-storey building on a T-shaped ground plan. The short side of the T faces the dike and housed the engine. The long side is built in the water above a barrel vault.
