Omschrijving onderdeel 2: Koestal
Inleiding
KOESTAL op onregelmatige langwerpige plattegrond onder zadeldak met dakschild. De koestal is op getrokken in Ambachtelijk-traditionele trant en dateert uit XIV (fundamenten) en XIXd (bovenbouw), waarbij de dakstoel en het bovenste deel van het muurwerk met betonvensters in circa 1950 zijn vernieuwd. De koestal is op de uiterste rand van de terreinverhoging gesitueerd.
Omschrijving
De boven een grijze plint witgepleisterde of -geverfde koestal ligt rechts van en haaks op de boerderij en is daarmee via een muur die het beloop van de kasteelfundamenten volgt, verbonden. Ook de buitenmuur aan de veldzijde van de koestal volgt het onregelmatige beloop van de kasteelmuren en is voor wat de benedenste gedeelten betreft uit kloostermoppen opgetrokken. Het stalgebouw heeft een afgeplat zadeldak met dakschild en is gedekt met rode en gesmoorde Hollandse golfpannen. Aan de hofzijde bevinden zich uiterst rechts een getoogde deuropening met driedelig bovenlicht in lunetvorm en verder vier staldeuren. Staafankers. Aan de achterzijde (veldzijde) drie gedeelde betonvensters. De korte gevels zijn blind. Binnen staan op de muurplaat trapeziumvormige spanten uit gezaagd grenen (circa 1950).
Waardering
De koestal uit XIXd op restanten van het kasteel Herlaer uit XIV e.v. is van algemeen belang. Het pand heeft cultuurhistorische waarde als voorbeeld van een koestal behorend bij een langgevelboerderij die voortgekomen is uit een kasteel en daar ook in naam aan herinnert. Het pand heeft architectuurhistorische waarde vanwege de in- en uitwendig gaaf behouden hoofdstructuur en het traditionele materiaalgebruik alsmede vanwege onderdelen van het interieur. Het pand heeft bouwhistorische waarde vanwege de gecompliceerde bouwgeschiedenis. Het is historisch van betekenis als herinnering aan de tijd van het feodalisme. Het pand vormt met de landschappelijke verhoging, de resten van de omgrachting, de bijbehorende langgevelboerderij, bijgebouwen en het hoge geboomte temidden van de weilanden een waardevol landschappelijk en monumentaal ensemble.

Introduction
COW BARN on irregular elongated plan under gabled roof with roof shield. The cow barn is constructed in craftsman-traditional manner and dates from the 14th century (foundations) and second half of the 19th century (superstructure), whereby the roof truss structure and the upper part of the masonry with concrete windows were renewed circa 1950. The cow barn is situated on the outer edge of the terrain elevation.
Description
The cow barn, whitewashed or -painted above a grey plinth, lies to the right of and at right angles to the farmhouse and is thereby connected via a wall which follows the course of the castle foundations. The outer wall at the field side of the cow barn also follows the irregular course of the castle walls and, as regards the lower sections, is constructed from monastery bricks. The stable building has a truncated gabled roof with roof shield and is covered with red and smothered Dutch roof tiles. On the courtyard side at the far right is an arched door opening with three-part fanlight in lunette form and further four stable doors. Bar wall anchors. On the rear side (field side) three divided concrete windows. The short gables are blind. Inside, trapezoidal trusses made from sawn pine (circa 1950) stand on the wall plate.
Valuation
The cow barn from the second half of the 19th century on remains of castle Herlaer from the 14th century onwards is of general importance. The property has cultural-historical value as an example of a cow barn belonging to a long-facade farmhouse which originated from a castle and is also recalled in its name. The property has architectural-historical value because of the well-preserved main structure both inside and out and traditional use of materials as well as because of components of the interior. The property has building-historical value because of the complicated building history. It is historically significant as a reminder of the time of feudalism. The property, together with the landscaped raised area, the remains of the moat, the associated long-facade farmhouse, outbuildings and the tall trees amidst the meadows, forms a valuable landscape and monumental ensemble.
