Inleiding
SCHUTSLUIS, onderdeel van het sluiscomplex Haarlemmervaart, gelegen in de belangrijke verbindingsroute van de Haarlemmervaart. Op de oever bevindt zich naast de sluis de sluiswachterswoning annex gemaal. In eerste aanleg stamt de bouw uit 1884

Omschrijving
De schutsluis met bijbehorende schutkolk wordt gevormd door tweemaal twee, haaks op de waterloop geplaatste, uitgebouwde landhoofden waartussen houten sluisdeuren. Oostelijk komen twee stel dubbele puntdeuren voor; de westelijk gesitueerde deuren liggen naast een ijzeren voetgangersbrug. De deuren zijn onder een hoek van ongeveer 30 graden geplaatst en worden in beweging gezet door middel van een horizontaal geplaatste, kwartcirkelvormige heugelstang die is verbonden met een zich onder het maaiveld bevindende, tandwielkast in elk landhoofd. De gleuf voor de uitzwaai van de heugelstang onder het maaiveld is door ijzeren plaatdeksels afgedekt. De vier landhoofden zijn gemetseld in baksteen (kruisverband) en voorzien van natuurstenen accenten op de naar voren springende ronde hoeken en als dekplaat langs de muur van de landhoofden. De ingezwenkte oevers van de schutkolk tussen de sluizen bestaan uit een beschoeiingsloos talud.
Van het oostelijk gelegen dubbel stel deuren zijn de twee binnenste deuren (1954) boven voorzien van een ijzeren buisrailing waaraan een schuif is gemonteerd. Het buitenste paar (1997) bevat aan weerszijden van de deuren een railing waartussen een verhoogde loopplank, rustend op de verlengde uiteinden van de deuren, die elk overigens zijn voorzien van een schuif. De scharnierpunten van het beide stel deuren op de landhoofden, zijn in de hoeken geplaatst aan weerszijden van de muurdam die zich in het midden van dit landhoofd bevindt. De westelijke puntdeuren (in 1991 vernieuwd) bevatten één railing waaraan aan de noordelijke deur een tandwielkast met verticaal geplaatste heugelstang is gemonteerd.
Waardering
De in oorsprong uit 1884 daterende schutsluis in de Haarlemmertrekvaart is van algemeen belang vanwege de cultuurhistorische en civieltechnisch-historische waarde als laat negentiende-eeuwse respresentant van de tradtionele waterbeheersing in een historisch belangrijke vaarroute. Description
The lock with its associated lock chamber is formed by twice two land heads placed at right angles to the watercourse, with wooden lock gates between them. On the eastern side there are two sets of double pointed gates; the gates situated on the western side are adjacent to an iron footbridge. The gates are placed at an angle of approximately 30 degrees and are set in motion by means of a horizontally placed, quarter-circle shaped toggle rod connected to a gearbox situated below ground level in each land head. The slot for the swing of the toggle rod below ground level is covered by iron plate covers. The four land heads are built in brickwork (English bond) and provided with natural stone accents on the projecting round corners and as a coping plate along the wall of the land heads. The recessed banks of the lock chamber between the locks consist of an unlined slope.
Of the eastern set of double gates, the two inner doors (1954) are provided above with an iron pipe railing to which a sliding mechanism is mounted. The pivot points of both sets of gates on the land heads are located in the corners on either side of the wall dam situated in the middle of this land head.
