Inleiding
Het zuidwestelijk BOUWBLOK (B) van het woningbouwcomplex Patrimonium is gesitueerd aan de Zaanstraat en de Hembrugstraat. Het U-vormige blok heeft de ene poot van de U (noord) aan een klein, trapeziumvormig, plein dat wordt afgesloten door een poortgebouw van de binnenring en de andere poot (zuid) aan de Hembrugstraat. Deze poot heeft een kleine uitloper aan een ander trapeziumvormig pleintje, dat eveneens leidt naar een poortgebouw van de binnenring. Het blok in Rationalistische trant stamt uit de jaren 1918-1919.
Omschrijving
Het bouwblok heeft vier bouwlagen en een zolder onder (afgewolfde) schild- en zadeldaken en is in bakstenen kruisverband opgetrokken op een U-vormige plattegrond, de etagewoningen gegroepeerd rondom de bebouwing van de binnenring van de Zaanhof. Het lange bouwblokdeel aan de Hembrugstraat heeft vijf portieken met inpandige trap, onder topgevels volgen schema, geflankeerd door telkens twee traveeën. Het portiek geheel rechts gelegen mist één afgeschuinde, flankerende ingangsportiek en heeft geen topgevel maar een dakkapel. Op de hoek een erker over twee verdiepingen onder een topgevel. De geheel links gesitueerde portiek heeft in de tweede as, uiterst links een erker over drie verdiepingen, de bovenste rechthoekig in plaats van driezijdig, een spaarveld met een deur en twee vensters op de begane grond en de portiek zonder flankerende ingangsportiek. Geen topgevel boven de portiek maar een steekkap met schilddak boven de twee traveeën ter linkerzijde. De korte poot van de U aan de Zaanstraat is identiek aan de tegenoverliggende zijde van bouwblok A. De hoek onder een afgewolfd schilddak met schoorsteen wordt door middel van een open borstwering, met gemetselde vierpas, verbonden met een uitgebouwde traptoren onder tentdak met piron. In de traptoren een rondboogportiek en een rechtgesloten deur. Links van de traptoren een deel van drie bouwlagen, eveneens uitgebouwd, met drie vensterassen. Rechts drie vensterassen en op de hoek een spaarveld op de begane grond. De andere korte poot van de U aan de Hembrugstraat heeft een uitspringend deel met een portiek onder topgevel met aan weerszijden twee traveeën, volgens schema. Links hiervan een ingangsportiek zonder buitentrap met rechts twee traveeën en links één. De linker travee is op de hoek met de Zaanstraat en heeft een erker over twee verdiepingen onder een topgevel. Rechts van het uitspringende deel bevindt zich in de oksel een uitgebouwd trappenhuis onder een lessenaardak en één travee. Het uitgebouwde trappenhuis heeft een luifel boven één van de twee deuren en een natuurstenen sculptuur van een uil. Overhoeks, aan het kleine pleintje, bevinden zich drie vensterassen en telt het bouwblok een verdieping minder. Een topgevel op de hoek knikt mee met de afgeschuinde hoek, ter breedte van één vensteras, en wordt bekroond door een natuurstenen pelikaan. Deze gevel is identiek als die aan de overzijde (blok C) De achtergevels hebben uitspringende volumes van drie vensterassen breed, onder steekkappen, geflankeerd door hoge schoorstenen en daartussen balkons. De trappenhuizen in de uitspringende volumes hebben een liggend, ovaal trapvenster. De achtergevel haaks op het trapeziumvormige pleintje heeft uitgemetselde balkons op afgeschuinde consoles.

The building block has four storeys and a loft under hipped and gabled roofs (half-hipped) and is constructed in stretcher bond brickwork on a U-shaped plan, the apartment buildings grouped around the inner ring development of the Zaanhof. The long building block section at the Hembrugstraat has five entrance halls with internal stairs, under stepped gables following the schema, flanked each time by two bays. The rightmost entrance hall lacks one bevelled flanking entrance portico and has no stepped gable but a roof dormer. At the corner a bay window over two storeys under a stepped gable. The entrance hall situated at the far left has in the second axis, at the far left a bay window over three storeys, the uppermost rectangular instead of three-sided, a spandrel with a door and two windows on the ground floor and the entrance hall without flanking entrance portico. No stepped gable above the entrance hall but a catslide roof with hipped roof above the two bays on the left side. The short arm of the U at the Zaanstraat is identical to the opposite side of building block A. The corner under a half-hipped roof with chimney is connected by means of an open parapet, with mortared four-petalled flower pattern, with an extended stair tower under a pyramid roof with finial. In the stair tower a round-arched portico and a straight-headed door. To the left of the stair tower a section of three storeys, also extended, with three window axes. To the right three window axes and at the corner a spandrel on the ground floor. The other short arm of the U at the Hembrugstraat has a projecting section with an entrance hall under a stepped gable with two bays on either side, according to the schema. The extended staircase building has a canopy above one of the two doors and a natural stone sculpture of an owl. Diagonally opposite, at the small square, there are three window axes and the building block has one storey fewer. A stepped gable at the corner follows the bevelled corner, to the width of one window axis, and is crowned by a natural stone pelican. This facade is identical to that on the opposite side (block C). The rear facades have projecting volumes three window axes wide, under catslide roofs, flanked by tall chimneys and balconies between them. The staircases in the projecting volumes have a horizontal, oval staircase window. The rear facade perpendicular to the trapezoidal square has mortared balconies on bevelled consoles.
