Inleiding
Half vrijstaand noordelijk BOUWBLOK (A) van het woningbouwcomplex Patrimonium op een plattegrond van een geknikte L, aangelegd op de Spaardammerdijk en de Zaanstraat met kleine uitlopers (kopgevels) aan de Oostzaanstraat en de Zaanstraat. Vanaf de Zaanstraat geven twee, op regelmatige afstand geplaatste, poorten toegang tot de binnenring van de Zaanhof en vanaf de Spaardammerdijk één, die tevens het niveauverschil met de hoger gelegen dijk, door middel van een trap overbrugt. Het blok in Rationalistische trant stamt uit de jaren 1918-1919.
Omschrijving
Het bouwblok heeft vier bouwlagen en een zolder onder (afgewolfde) schild- en zadeldaken en is in bakstenen kruisverband opgetrokken op een (geknikte) L-vormige plattegrond, de etagewoningen gegroepeerd rondom de bebouwing van de binnenring van de Zaanhof (van dezelfde hoofdvorm, maar gefragmenteerd). De geknikte gevel aan de Zaanstraat heeft twee poorten en zes rondboog portieken elk met aan weerszijden twee vensterassen. Afwijkingen van het schema komen voor op de hoeken. De zuidelijke hoek heeft in de tweede as van de portiek, uiterst rechts, een erker over drie verdiepingen, de bovenste rechthoekig in plaats van driezijdig en een spaarveld op de begane grond met daarin een deur en twee vensters. In de travee links van de portiek komt geen deur voor. De portiek heeft geen topgevel maar boven de twee traveeën ter linkerzijde komt een steekkap met schilddak voor. De noordelijke hoek verspringt in hoogte en heeft ter plaatse geen rondboogportiek maar drie rechtgesloten deuren. De hoekerker loopt over drie verdiepingen. De twee poorten, die het blokdeel in de Zaanstraat in drie vrijwel gelijke stukken verdelen, hebben gedrukte spitsbogige doorgangen met siermetselwerk. Boven de poort komen drie bouwlagen van elk drie vensterassen voor waarbij de bovenste verdieping is teruggezet en een loggia bevat. Links en rechts van deze middenpartij komt een driezijdige erker op uitgemetselde consoles en met overhoeks getand metselwerk voor, bekroond door een veelzijdig tentdak met pirons. De erkers bevinden zich boven rondboogportieken en omvatten in de consoles portiekvensters met smeedijzeren kettingen. Het hoger opgetrokken schilddak van het poortgebouw heeft pirons en een centrale topgevel. Tussen de poorten en de portieken komen drie traveeën voor. De gevel aan de Spaarndammerdijk heeft één centrale poort en zes rondboog portieken waarvan de buitenste twee afwijkingen op het schema vertonen. De geheel rechts geplaatste portiek heeft geen flankerende ingangsportieken maar in dezelfde portiek één rechtgesloten deur op de begane grond naast de trap. De hoek heeft een erker over drie verdiepingen. De geheel links geplaatste portiek heeft evenmin flankerende afgeschuinde ingangsportieken maar flankerende, rechtgesloten deuren. De erker loopt over twee bouwlagen. De poort heeft een trap naar de lager gelegen Zaanhof en is verder gedetailleerd als de poorten aan de Zaanstraat en heeft bovendien centraal op de kap een torentje met rondbogige tamboer en uivormige, met leien gedekte koepel. Aan weerszijden van de poort bevindt zich een spaarveld met een deur en twee vensters.
De gevel aan de Zaanstraat (de kopse kant) is identiek aan de tegenoverliggende zijde van bouwblok B. De hoek onder een afgewolfd schilddak met schoorsteen wordt door middel van een borstwering, met open gemetselde vierpas, verbonden met een uitgebouwde traptoren onder tentdak met piron. In de traptoren een rondboogportiek en een rechtgesloten deur. Rechts van de traptoren een deel van drie bouwlagen, eveneens uitgebouwd, met drie vensterassen. Links drie vensterassen en op de hoek een spaarveld op de begane grond. De andere kopse kant, aan de Oostzaanstraat heeft één rondboog portiek volgens schema maar zonder topgevel. De buitenste travee links heeft een extra bouwlaag onder een steekkap. Het hoger opgetrokken hoekblok rechts heeft twee spaarvelden op de begane grond en een erker over twee verdiepingen.
De achtergevel heeft uitspringende volumes onder steekkappen met schilddak met daartussen telkens twee balkons, onderling gescheiden door gemetselde muurdammen. Een variant op de eenvoudige steekkap is een topgevel met daarvoor een uitbouw onder tentdak (achtergevel Spaarndammerdijk). Aan weerszijden bevinden zich hoge schoorstenen. In de trappenhuizen is een liggend, ovaal venster geplaatst. De achterzijdes van de poorten hebben centrale topgevels en flankerende traptorens in hetzelfde schema als aan de voorzijde en hebben boven de doorgangen (onder een balkon) een gedicht. De meest zuidelijke poort: 'DE STAAT GAF DE ZWAKKE WET EN STUT/DE STAD HEEFT MEE DE ZORGEN WILLEN DRAGEN/TOEN BURGERZIN GEROERD DOOR BILLIJK KLAGEN/AAN 'T BOUWEN TOOG, STAAT STAD EN VOLK TOT NUT.' Semi-detached northern BUILDING BLOCK (A) of the Patrimonium housing complex on an L-shaped floor plan, laid out on the Spaardammerdijk and the Zaanstraat with small projections (gable ends) on the Oostzaanstraat and the Zaanstraat. From the Zaanstraat two gates, placed at regular intervals, provide access to the inner ring of the Zaanhof and from the Spaardammerdijk one, which also bridges the level difference with the higher-lying embankment by means of a staircase. The block in Rationalist style dates from 1918-1919.
Description
The building block has four storeys and an attic under (half-hipped) hipped and gabled roofs and is constructed in brick in English bond on a (angled) L-shaped floor plan, the flat dwellings grouped around the building of the inner ring of the Zaanhof (of the same main form, but fragmented). The angled facade on the Zaanstraat has two gates and six round-arch porticoes each with two window bays on either side. Deviations from the schema occur at the corners. The southern corner has in the second bay of the portico, far right, a bay window over three storeys, the upper rectangular instead of three-sided and a void section on the ground floor with a door and two windows in it. In the bay to the left of the portico no door occurs. The portico has no gable but above the two bays on the left side there is a cat-slide with hipped roof. The northern corner is stepped in height and has no round-arch portico at the spot but three straight doors. The corner bay window runs over three storeys. The two gates, which divide the block section on the Zaanstraat into three nearly equal parts, have depressed pointed-arch passages with ornamental brickwork. Above the gate there are three storeys each with three window bays whereby the upper storey is recessed and contains a loggia. To the left and right of this central section there is a three-sided bay window on built-out brackets and with overhand toothed brickwork, crowned by a polygonal tent roof with cresting. The bay windows are situated above round-arch porticoes and include in the brackets portico windows with wrought-iron chains. The higher-constructed hipped roof of the gate building has cresting and a central gable. Between the gates and the porticoes there are three bays. The facade on the Spaardammerdijk has one central gate and six round-arch porticoes of which the outermost two show deviations from the schema. The portico placed far right has no flanking entrance porticoes but in the same portico one straight door on the ground floor beside the stair. The corner has a bay window over three storeys. The portico placed far left likewise has no flanking bevelled entrance porticoes but flanking straight doors. The bay window runs over two storeys. The gate has a stair to the lower-lying Zaanhof and is otherwise detailed as the gates on the Zaanstraat and furthermore has centrally on the roof a small tower with round-arch drum and egg-shaped, slate-clad dome. On either side of the gate there is a void section with a door and two windows.
The facade on the Zaanstraat (the gable end) is identical to the opposite side of building block B. The corner under a half-hipped hipped roof with chimney is connected by means of a parapet wall with open-laid four-pointed star, with a built-out stair tower under tent roof with cresting. In the stair tower a round-arch portico and a straight door. To the right of the stair tower a section of three storeys, likewise built-out, with three window bays. To the left three window bays and at the corner a void section on the ground floor. The other gable end, on the Oostzaanstraat has one round-arch portico according to schema but without gable. The outermost bay on the left has an additional storey under a cat-slide. The higher-constructed corner block on the right has two void sections on the ground floor and a bay window over two storeys.
The rear facade has projecting volumes under cat-slides with hipped roof with between them each time two balconies, mutually separated by built-up wall panels. A variant on the simple cat-slide is a gable with in front of it a built-out section under tent roof (rear facade Spaardammerdijk). On either side there are tall chimneys. In the staircases a recumbent oval window is placed. The rear sides of the gates have central gables and flanking stair towers in the same schema as on the front and have above the passages (under a balcony) a poem. The southernmost gate: 'THE STATE GAVE THE WEAK LAW AND SUPPORT/THE CITY TOO WISHED TO CARRY THE CARES/WHEN CIVIC SPIRIT MOVED BY FAIR COMPLAINT/TURNED TO BUILDING, CITY AND PEOPLE STAND FOR GOOD.'
