The register's description

Inleiding

Introduction

Detached DWELLING HOUSE under a hipped roof, constructed in artisanal-traditional building manner, dating from the 17th-second half of the 19th century. The building stands in the urbanised village centre of Oirschot and is oriented with the ridge parallel to the street.

Description

The single-storey village dwelling house has in plan a rectangular ground plan. It is constructed above a rendered and dark-grey-painted plinth of hand-formed brick and machine-made brick, which is combed and painted white. The hipped roof is covered with moulded Dutch roof tiles with matching frost tiles on the ridge and hip rafters. In the middle of the rear roof slope a brick chimney. The front facade has a renewed front door with fanlight with rounded corners in original frame. On the left one and on the right two renewed windows with six-light sash windows. Renewed double shutters. Drip mouldings. String courses above door and windows, all at the same height. Tie-rods of unequal length. At the far right in view an oak framing post with tie-beam construction. Upon it laid, mutually crossing oak wall-plates. On the right a narrow fire-break, enclosed with a new door. The right side gable is entirely blank. String course beneath wall-plate. The left side gable shows various building traces. On the right a window with six-light sash window as before. Tie-rods. On the rear gable a wedge-shaped extension with curved wall line under a low projecting lean-to roof with partly also red Dutch tiles.

The frames are painted ochre, the sashes white and the door and shutters painted dark green.

Internally the original layout has been largely preserved. In the left side gable the tie-beam is built into the wall which on the rear side at the boundary with the extension is laid on a post and is braced by a corbel. This construction corresponds with the tie-beam in the right side gable. From this emerges the image of a broad, single-aisled house with lower side aisle at the rear. Traces in the masonry indicate that it is a matter of a possibly timber-framed with infill single-aisled timber skeleton which will have been gradually stoned during the 19th century.

Valuation

The village dwelling house from the 17th-second half of the 19th century is of general importance. The building has cultural-historical value as an example of a village dwelling house of considerable age. It has architectural-historical value due to the internally and externally well-preserved main structure and components of the interior, the harmonious proportions and artisanally applied traditional building materials. It has building-historical value on account of the visible traces of the stoning of a simple village house. It is rare in typological terms as an example of a simple, initially possibly single-aisled village dwelling house of considerable age. The building has ensemble value through its location within the protected village scene of Oirschot and is character-defining in the street scene.
