Inleiding
KEUTERIJBOERDERIJ (omstreeks 1900) met mogelijk iets jongere veldschuur. Boerderij en naastgelegen veldschuur liggen op ruime afstand van de openbare weg. Het erf wordt aan de voorzijde afgesloten door een (haakvormige) haag, waarachter een kleine appelhof is gelegen. Samen met de beschermde keuterij Schutsweg 42 en de als archeologisch monument beschermde hunebedden D3 en D4, vormt Schutsweg 40 een cultuurhistorisch bijzonder ensemble dat is gelegen in een landschappelijk bijzonder gebied dat is gelegen aan de rand van het Belvedere-gebied Eelde-Paterswolde. Mogelijk in de jaren veertig van de 20ste eeuw is de boerderij verlengd, bij welke gelegenheid de nok ter plaatse van de deel enigszins omhoog is gebracht. De later aan de achterzijde aangebouwde varkensschuur wordt wegens het ontbreken van monumentale waarde niet beschermd.
Omschrijving
KEUTERBOERDERIJ, bestaande uit een woongedeelte en een stalgedeelte met krimp. Het geheel is opgetrokken uit rode baksteen en wordt gedekt door een driezijdig met riet en pannen belegd aan de achterzijde even afgewolfd zadeldak.. Topschoorsteen; staafankers; windveren. In het woongedeelte H-vensters (oorspronkelijk vermoedelijk met middenstijl); twee raampjes in de geveltop; zij-ingang. In het stalgedeelte, waarvan de detaillering weinig oorspronkelijk meer is, onder meer ijzeren ramen en opgeklampte deuren. INTERIEUR. Het woongedeelte is grotendeels nog origineel en bestaat uit onder meer een woonkamer en twee slaapkamers. De indeling van het stalgedeelte is eveneens grotendeels nog origineel met ankerbalkgebint en stijlen op bakstenen stiepen. VELDSCHUUR. Op het erf, terzijde van de boerderij, een veldschuur met houten gebint op bakstenen stiepen; pannengedekt aan voorzijde hoger opgetrokken schilddak..

SMALL TENANT FARMHOUSE (around 1900) with possibly slightly younger field barn. Farmhouse and adjoining field barn lie at considerable distance from the public road.
