Inleiding

Description
Introduction
Richly ornamented MANUFACTURER'S VILLA in eclectic style from 1864 with adjoining CARRIAGE HOUSE as part of the complex 'NV Tricotfabriek G.J. Willink' built by order of textile manufacturer Hendrik Willink (1825-1877) to the design of architect L.G. Richter (1831-1902). The villa with adjoining carriage house is situated in a garden and located at the corner of Wilhelminastraat and Groenloseweg. The garden has no special historical garden design. On the street side, part of the original iron garden fence remains. The manufacturer's villa was inhabited by the founder of the factory Gerrit Jan Willink (1864-1933). The first experiments with mechanical knitting in the carriage house at the end of the 19th century led to the establishment of the Tricotfabriek in 1888.
Description
MANUFACTURER'S VILLA on an almost square floor plan consisting of two storeys enclosed by a hipped roof covered with tiles with cresting and in the left and right side hip two rendered chimneys. The rendered facades with sandstone plinth are provided with a moulded cordon moulding and are closed at the top by an architrave, frieze and cornice. On the front elevation the principal gable is enriched with moulded consoles to emphasize the corners and the central risalit. The left side facade is largely unrendered due to a formerly adjoining building. The regularly distributed window openings are provided with a moulded surround with rounded corners with a rococo hood ornament as decoration in the centre above the windows.
The symmetrically arranged FRONT FACADE is characterised by a richer design compared to the other facades on either side closed by a corner pilaster with articulation. The facade consists of three bays. The projecting central bay is emphasised by a double panel door with cast-iron ornamental grilles and fanlight on the ground floor. In front of the entrance is a sandstone flight of steps. On the first floor a T-sash window with below it a balcony, the balustrade of which has disappeared, supported by moulded consoles and richly moulded cornice.
On either side of the central bay there is an identical bay consisting of a large window section on the ground floor consisting of three coupled single-light windows with fanlight enclosed by a moulded frame with a hood ornament in the centre above the window, closed at the bottom by an under-sill with below it an entre-lis ornament with on either side a console. On the first floor there are two T-sash windows identical to the window in the central bay with a slightly less rich surround.
The LEFT SIDE FACADE is largely a solid facade consisting of fair-faced brickwork resulting from the demolition of the adjoining residence of Herman Christiaan Jurjaan Willink brother of Herman Willink. At the far right there is a rendered window pier with on the ground floor a sash window and on the first floor a blind window.
In the symmetrically arranged REAR FACADE there is centrally on the ground floor a double door and on the first floor a T-sash window. On either side of the central axis there is an identical axis with on the ground floor and the first floor a wide window opening. To the right against the rear facade is part of the carriage house.
In the RIGHT SIDE FACADE there are six regularly distributed window openings of which five windows are identical to those in the left side facade. The sixth window centrally on the ground floor is blind executed with double segmental arch surround.
The INTERIOR of the villa is well preserved in various respects such as parquet floors, marble hallway floor, marble fireplaces (supplied by the firm Beltmann from Deventer), panel doors with shoulder surrounds and pediments, ornamented stucco ceilings, staircase and stone decorations.
The CARRIAGE HOUSE with irregular floor plan consisting of one storey is enclosed by a truncated hipped roof covered with smothered (not original) tiles. The rendered facades with plinth at the bottom and a frieze at the top are closed by a moulded fascia. The rectangular window openings are closed by segmental arches and recessed rendered arch drums.
Centrally in the FRONT FACADE is the former double door opening currently altered into a window. The former entrance section is emphasised by a higher raised central section with double shutter and pediment. On either side of this central bay there are three windows with altered windows. The second window from the left was formerly a door with fanlight.
To the left against the LEFT SIDE FACADE is an extension with flat roof. To the right of this is a window identical to those in the front facade. The arrangement in the REAR FACADE is virtually identical to the front facade with an original infill of the window openings. Centrally in the facade is a double door with standing on either side windows and a door.
The RIGHT SIDE FACADE is a blind facade consisting of fair-faced brickwork resulting from the demolition of the adjoining residence of Herman Christiaan Jurjaan Willink, brother of Herman Willink.
