Inleiding

Description
Introduction
The former OFFICIAL RESIDENCE for a prison guard was designed together with five adjacent identical official residences in 1883 by J. F. Metzelaar at the penal institution.
As an example Metzelaar used his design plans for the dwellings for the penal institution at Arnhem. On the north side of the site, outside the ring wall stand six warders' residences. On 20 February 1883 the houses (together with the penal institution and the director's residences) were put out to tender. They were built by contractors A.S. Schaafsma and J. Schaafsma from Harlingen. In June 1886 the residences, which were specially intended for married prison staff, were completed. The east side of the dwelling was partially constructed in the nineteen-sixties and provided with a new entrance section.
Description
The single-storey detached dwelling with attic storey has a T-shaped ground plan under overhanging gabled roof with wooden bargeboards, the ridge is oriented north-south. The front facade is symmetrical in arrangement. The facade has twelve speckled courses of yellow brick, always two courses thick. On the ground floor a large window, consisting of two six-pane sash windows. Hardstone dripstones. Window section spanned by segmental arch. Between ground floor and storey at floor level three beam anchors. On the storey a six-pane sash window.
The roof overhang with five consoles at front and rear. The east facade is asymmetrical. In the north facade the same six-pane sash window as on the storey of the front facade. Southern part of facade rebuilt (today two storeys with gable). On the north side extension entrance section under roof of new building section. Speckled courses and beam anchors the same as on the front facade.
