Inleiding.
Het GRAFMONUMENT voor pastoor W. Hellemons (1810-1884), stichter van de basiliek en de Congregatie der Broeders van de H. Aloysius van Gonzaga (de broeders van Oudenbosch) is gelegen op de Calvarieberg, midden op het kerkhof tegenover de Calvariegroep. Het is opgericht in 1898 in Neorenaissancevormen en gesigneerd 'W.P. Peeters architect' en 'C.H. Creton steenhouwer te Oudenbosch'.
Omschrijving.
Hardstenen graf bestaande uit een tombe met dekplaat en kruis en aansluitende hoge opstand. Op de zijkanten der tombe in reliëf uitgehakt een schedel met doodsbeenderen, links een hart en rechts een anker. Aan het hoofdeinde van de tombe een hoge opstand met ingezwenkt voetstuk, waarin boven de tombedeksel een kleine in marmer uitgevoerde, thans lege nis. De opstand bestaat uit een marmeren gedenkplaat onder een deksteen, welke rust op vier gecanneleerde pilasters. Op de deksteen twee siervazen en een kruis, eveneens in marmer uitgevoerd. De gedenkplaat aan de voorzijde draagt de tekst 'Hier rust in vrede/ de zeer eerw. heer pastoor/ W. Hellemons ord. cist./ geboren te Rosendaal/ den 17 april 1810/ overleden te Oudenbosch/ den 12 december 1884'. Aan de achterzijde bevindt zich onder een door engelen gedragen cartouche de tekst: 'De oud congreganisten/ uit dankbaarheid/ MDCCCLXXXVIII'.
Waardering.
Het monument is van algemeen belang. Het heeft waarde als bijzondere uitdrukking van een geestelijke ontwikkeling, namelijk de stichting van congregaties in de 19de eeuw en is van belang als herinnering aan een der congregatiestichters; heeft architectuurhistorische waarde vanwege het belang voor de architectuurgeschiedenis; het heeft ensemblewaarde als onderdeel van een groter geheel, de kern van Oudenbosch, dat stedenbouwkundig van belang is en vanwege de situering welke verbonden is met de ontwikkeling van Oudenbosch; het is gaaf bewaard gebleven.

The GRAVE MONUMENT for Pastor W. Hellemons (1810-1884), founder of the basilica and the Congregation of the Brothers of St. Aloysius of Gonzaga (the brothers of Oudenbosch) is located on the Calvary Hill, in the middle of the churchyard opposite the Calvary group. Description.
Hardstone grave consisting of a tomb with cover slab and cross and adjoining high superstructure. On the sides of the tomb carved in relief a skull with crossbones, on the left a heart and on the right an anchor. At the head end of the tomb a high superstructure with bevelled pedestal, in which above the tomb cover a small niche executed in marble, now empty. The superstructure consists of a marble commemorative plaque under a cover stone, which rests on four fluted pilasters. On the cover stone two decorative vases and a cross, also executed in marble. The commemorative plaque on the front bears the text 'Here rests in peace/ the very reverend pastor/ W. Hellemons ord. cist./ born in Rosendaal/ on 17 April 1810/ died in Oudenbosch/ on 12 December 1884'. On the rear side is located under a cartouche carried by angels the text: 'The former congregation members/ in gratitude/ MDCCCLXXXVIII'.
Valuation.
The monument is of general interest. It has value as a particular expression of a spiritual development, namely the foundation of congregations in the 19th century and is of significance as a memorial to one of the congregation's founders; it has architectural-historical value because of its importance for architectural history; it has ensemble value as part of a larger whole, the centre of Oudenbosch, which is of urban planning significance and because of the location which is connected to the development of Oudenbosch; it has been preserved in good condition.
