Inleiding.
De KAPEL Sint-Barbara op het kerkhof is in 1894 naar ontwerp van G.J. van Swaay opgericht op het terrein van de middeleeuwse parochiekerk in een min of meer Neo-Romaanse stijl.
Omschrijving.
Kruisvormige kapel, opgetrokken uit van de afbraak der middeleeuwse parochiekerk afkomstige baksteen, gepleisterd en geschilderd. Gedekt met zadeldaken met kruispannen. Op de kruising der daken een achthoekige dakruiter met spits. De muurvlakken worden op de hoeken en bij de viering afgesloten door gegroefde pilasters, die onder de goot met elkaar verbonden worden door een uitmetseling. In de gevelvlakken bevinden zich rondboogramen, door montants in tweeën gedeeld met een ronde opening bovenin. Rondboogvormige hoofdingang in een der korte zijden. In een der topgevels van het transept en boven de ingang een rondboognisje. De banderol met de tekst 'St. Barbara' op de transeptgevel is recent overgeschilderd. De originele terracotta kamversiering op de nokken is verwijderd. De dakruiter heeft een smeedijzeren hek, frontons aan de zijden en een met zink gedekt achtzijdig spitsje. Tegen de blinde korte achtergevel met rondboognisje in top een rechtopgezette, zeventiende-eeuwse grafzerk van de vroegere drossaard van Oudenbosch, vermoedelijk uit de vroegere kerk. Inwendig een eenvoudige ruimte met vlak plafond. De muren rond 1930 deels beklampt met een lambrisering van veelkleurige baksteen in geel en rood. Eenvoudige altaartombe.
Waardering.
De kapel is van algemeen belang. Het gebouw heeft cultuurhistorische waarde als bijzondere uitdrukking van een geestelijke ontwikkeling, namelijk de vorming van de katholieke grafcultuur; het heeft architectuurhistorische waarde vanwege het belang voor de architectuurgeschiedenis; het is onderdeel van een groter geheel, de kern van Oudenbosch, dat stedenbouwkundig van belang is en vanwege de situering welke verbonden is met de ontwikkeling van Oudenbosch; het gebouw is gaaf bewaard gebleven.

Cross-shaped chapel, constructed from brick salvaged from the demolition of the medieval parish church, plastered and painted. Covered with gabled roofs with cross tiles. At the intersection of the roofs an octagonal roof turret with spire. The wall surfaces are finished at the corners and at the crossing by fluted pilasters, which are connected below the eaves by projecting brickwork. In the wall surfaces are round-arched windows, divided into two by muntins with a round opening above. Round-arch-shaped main entrance in one of the short sides. In one of the gabled ends of the transept and above the entrance a round-arch niche. The banner with the text 'St. Barbara' on the transept facade has recently been overpainted. The original terracotta ridge ornamentation at the roof ridges has been removed. The roof turret has wrought-iron railings, pediments on the sides and an octagonal spire covered with zinc. Against the blind short rear facade with round-arch niche at the top a set-upright seventeenth-century tombstone of the former drossard of Oudenbosch, presumably from the former church. Interior a simple space with flat ceiling. The walls around 1930 partly fitted with timber cladding of multi-coloured brick in yellow and red. Simple altar tomb.
Valuation.
The chapel is of general importance. The building has cultural-historical value as a particular expression of a spiritual development, namely the formation of Catholic burial culture; it has architectural-historical value due to its significance for architectural history; it is part of a larger whole, the core of Oudenbosch, which is of urban planning importance and due to its location which is connected with the development of Oudenbosch; the building has been well preserved.
