The register's description

Inleiding.

Introduction.

The DWELLING HOUSE was built in Eclectic style in 1879 after a design from 1873 by architect C.P. van Genk, on commission from manufacturer A. Asselbergs. Around 1970 two large roof dormers were installed. The building forms together with the one at number 20 a mirrored block.

Description.

The two-storey building has three bays and is placed under a gabled roof parallel to the street with black newly improved Dutch tiles. Profile mouldings frame the plastered facade. The plinth is of hardstone. The parapet is provided with vertical grooves and fields. The wall piers of the ground floor have arched decorative fields. The T-windows on the ground floor have round shoulders, those on the first floor are arched. Both are provided with profiled stucco mouldings with hoods. This is also applied around the panel door on the right. The frieze with cornice is provided with volute consoles and fields. The step in front of the house is marked off by the original worked sheet iron bollards on hardstone base.

Valuation.

The dwelling house is of general importance. It has cultural-historical value as an image-defining component of the urban development from the last quarter of the 19th century and the relationship it has to the development and expansion of the city; it is of importance for the development of the typology of the urban dwelling house in the 19th century. The building has architectural-historical value owing to the balanced and careful composition and is of importance for the work of architect Van Genk. It is of particular significance for the appearance of the city and moreover of importance owing to the good condition of the exterior. Because the designs of the buildings on the Stationsstraat have remained in one hand, there is a case of architectural-historical rarity.
