GRAFKAPEL van de familie Mignot in Eclectische stijl door architect F. van Ballaer.
Omschrijving
De kapel bestaat uit een blokvormig, natuurstenen gebouwtje onder zadeldak. Naar boven loopt het geheel smaller toe. Aan de voorzijde is een koperen deur in een uitstekende omlijsting met tympaan geplaatst.
Op de deur is een inscriptie: F. VAN BALLAER/ARCHITECT/ANTWERPEN zichtbaar. In de zij- en achtergevels zijn glas-in-lood ramen aangebracht.
In de zijgevels zijn deze ramen voorzien van bladmotieven, aan de achterzijde is in drie rondboogramen een figuratieve voorstelling van de gekruisigde Christus met Maria's zichtbaar.
De kapel is omgeven door een lage muur, aan de voorzijde voorzien van een opening met metalen ketting.
Waardering
Het grafmonument is van algemeen belang. het heeft cultuurhistorische waarde als bijzondere uitdrukking van een sociale en geestelijke ontwikkeling, in het bijzonder de ontwikkeling van de katholieke grafcultuur, het is tevens van belang voor de typologische ontwikkeling van het grafmonument. Het heeft architectuur- en kunsthistorisch belang als voorbeeld van een Eclectische grafkapel en als voorbeeld van het werk van de architect Van Ballaer. Description
The chapel consists of a block-shaped, natural stone building beneath a gabled roof. Towards the top the whole becomes narrower. At the front a copper door is placed in a projecting frame with tympanum.
On the door is an inscription: F. VAN BALLAER/ARCHITECT/ANTWERPEN visible. In the side and rear facades leaded glass windows are installed.
In the side facades these windows are provided with leaf motifs, on the rear in three arched windows a figurative representation of the crucified Christ with the Marys is visible.
The chapel is surrounded by a low wall, at the front provided with an opening with metal chain.
Valuation
The funerary monument is of general importance. It has cultural-historical value as a particular expression of a social and spiritual development, in particular the development of Catholic burial culture, it is also of importance for the typological development of the funerary monument.
