Inleiding
Het GRAFMONUMENT van B. Libotte is gesitueerd op het R.K. kerkhof van Megen, dateert uit 1859, bestaat uit een hardstenen zerk en wordt omgeven door een neogotisch smeedijzeren hekwerk.
Omschrijving
De in verschillende stukken gebarsten hardstenen zerk is voorzien van de inscriptie: "Rustplaats / van den weledelen heer / B. Libotte / Burgemeester van Megen / geb. te Winsen den 27 Aug 1805 / overl. te Megen den 16 Oct. 1859 / Dat hij ruste in vrede". Het smeedijzeren hekwerk is aan de bovenzijde voorzien van spitsbogen en hangt aan een viertal smeedijzeren hoekkolommen, gesteld op hardstenen poeren.
Waardering
Het graf is van algemeen belang. Het heeft cultuurhistorische waarde als specimen van katholieke grafcultuur, in het bijzonder als voorbeeld van de wijze waarop de katholieke elite zich bediende van historiserende stijlelementen als representatiemotief. Het heeft kunsthistorische waarde als voorbeeld van de atelierproductie en vanwege de vormgeving. Het is gaaf bewaard gebleven.

The GRAVE MONUMENT of B. Libotte is situated on the Roman Catholic cemetery of Megen, dates from 1859, consists of a stone slab and is surrounded by a neo-gothic wrought-iron fence.
Description
The stone slab, cracked in several places, is inscribed with: "Resting place / of the honourable / B. Libotte / Mayor of Megen / born at Winsen on 27 Aug 1805 / died at Megen on 16 Oct. 1859 / May he rest in peace". The wrought-iron fence is provided at the top with pointed arches and hangs from four wrought-iron corner columns, set on stone bases.
Valuation
The grave is of general importance. It has cultural-historical value as a specimen of Catholic grave culture, in particular as an example of the way in which the Catholic elite used historicizing style elements as a representation motif. It has art-historical value as an example of workshop production and because of its design. It has been well preserved.
