Inleiding
Het GRAFMONUMENT van de familie Sengers is gesitueerd op het R.K. kerkhof van Megen, dateert waarschijnlijk uit 1911, bestaat uit een uit verschillende elementen opgebouwde hardstenen stèle en wordt omgeven door een smeedijzeren hekwerk.
Omstreeks 1975 is de uit IJsselsteentjes bestaande bakstenen voet verwijderd.
Omschrijving
De stèle is gesteld op een bakstenen fundering en bestaat uit een hardstenen getrapte sokkel, waartegen aan alle zijden in een klaverbladnis een biscuitporceleinen doodskop is aangebracht. De stèle is voorzien van in laagreliëf aangebrachte florale ornamenten. Aan de noordzijde is een plaquette aangebracht met de tekst: "Hier rust / Mej. Antonia Sengers / Echtgen.e van den Heer / Matthaeus H. van Beek / geb. 7 april 1828 / overl. 6 sept. 1911". Aan de oost- en westzijde een dito plaquette met respectievelijk de teksten: "Hier rust / de Heer / Hendrik Sengers / geboren te Megen den 29 maart 1747 / en aldaar overleden den 24 maart 1826 / en deszelfs echtgenote / Joanna Maria van de Pas / geboren te Oss den 24 juny 1745 / en overleden te Megen den 6 juny 1827" en "Hier rust / de weledelachtbare heer / Joannes Franciskus Sengers / geboren te Megen den 3 september 1783 / gedurende vele jaren burgemeester / te Megen / Lid der Provinciale Staten van / Noordbrabant / Dijkgraaf van den Polder 's lands van Megen / en aldaar overleden den 20 augustus 1859". Aan de zuidzijde is een plaquette verwijderd. De stèle wordt bekroond door een kruis en is omgeven door een gietijzeren pijlpuntenhekwerk, opgehangen aan dito hoekkolommen. Op de sokkel de inscriptie "G. Neefs Gz. 's Bosch".
Waardering
Het graf is van algemeen belang. Het heeft cultuurhistorische waarde als specimen van katholieke grafcultuur, in het bijzonder als voorbeeld van de wijze waarop de katholieke elite zich bediende van historiserende stijlelementen als representatiemotief.
