The register's description

Onderdeel 1: boerderij

Omschrijving

Component 1: farmhouse

Description

FARMHOUSE, called 'Herberg van Friesland', component of the farmhouse complex of the same name. The farmhouse is situated on the north side of De Brink at the corner with the access lane to Rhijnestein. The farmhouse is of the so-called T-house type; the front house lies parallel to the street and perpendicular to it stands the barn. Due to its proximity to the river, the building has a sloping floor level. The oldest, presumably 17th-century part of the front house is the right part where the cellar and upper room are situated. In the barn section too, some 17th-century components of tie-beam roof trusses are encountered. At a later date the front house was extended to the left. This gave rise to the current irregularly arranged front facade. This consists of a plastered cornice-topped facade with, on the right, two 18th-century glazing bar sash windows. To the left of this the door and a 19th-century window and at the far left again two 19th-century sash windows. The gabled roof is covered with cross tiles and is flanked on the left and right between stepped gables. The roof truss structure was presumably renewed in the 19th century. The left side facade is almost blind with a small window asymmetrically in the gable. The right side facade has a window for the upper room and a cellar window. The barn roof is tiled with pantiles. On the right side there is a door arrangement. The farmhouse was restored in the last decade of the 20th century and converted entirely into residential use. In the process, adjustments were made with contemporary materials and design, particularly in the barn section.

Valuation

The farmhouse is of general importance because of - architectural-historical values as a good example of a T-house type farmhouse incorporated in the village structure; - because of the presumed age and reasonable degree of integrity; - because of the urban planning value and presence in the townscape; - because of the spatial-functional coherence with the other complex components.
