Inleiding.
Ten noorden van kazemat 545 staat op de westelijke kade van het Defensiekanaal de S (3a) KAZEMAT 547, daterende uit 1939-1940. De wal is ter plaatse afgegraven.
Omschrijving.
De kazemat geeft door de schietgaten flankerend en frontaal vuur op het voorterrein. De kazemat is gaaf bewaard gebleven en vertoont zware gevechtssporen. De frontzijde is door mitrailleurvuur en pantserafweergeschut beschadigd.
Waardering.
De kazemat is van algemeen belang. Het object heeft cultuurhistorische waarde als bijzondere uitdrukking van een culturele en geografische ontwikkeling, namelijk de versterking en daaropvolgende verdediging van Nederland tijdens de Tweede Wereldoorlog en is als zodanig een belangrijk document van de militaire geschiedenis. Het is van architectuur- en bouwhistorisch belang wegens het bijzondere materiaalgebruik en de toepassing van moderne materialen en technieken, met name in de verwerking van gewapend beton. Het heeft ensemblewaarden als essentieel onderdeel van een groter geheel, dat cultuurhistorisch van belang is en is van belang wegens de hoogwaardige kwaliteit van de bebouwing en de historisch-ruimtelijke relatie met wegen, wateren en bodemgesteldheid. North of casemate 545, on the western embankment of the Defensiekanaal, stands the S (3a) CASEMATE 547, dating from 1939-1940. The embankment has been excavated at this location.
Description.
The casemate delivers flanking and frontal fire on the forward terrain through its loopholes. The casemate has been well preserved and shows heavy combat marks. The front is damaged by machine-gun fire and anti-tank guns.
Valuation.
The casemate is of general importance. The object has cultural-historical value as a particular expression of cultural and geographical development, namely the fortification and subsequent defence of the Netherlands during the Second World War and as such is an important document of military history. It is of architectural and building-historical significance owing to the particular use of materials and the application of modern materials and techniques, in particular in the use of reinforced concrete. It has ensemble values as an essential component of a larger whole, which is of cultural-historical importance and is significant owing to the high quality of the built environment and the historical-spatial relationship with roads, waterways and soil conditions. The whole has considerable experiential value and as a large-scale military complex and reminder of an important episode in national history is rare.
