Inleiding.
FABRIEKSHAL onderdeel van het complex dakpannenfabriek De Valk en gebouwd in het eerste kwart van de twintigste eeuw, vermoedelijk kort na 1900 (gevelsteen). Het gebouw waarin oorspronkelijk onder meer een oven en een droogzolder waren opgenomen is gelegen langs de Aasterbergweg. De gevel van de hal bevat een driehoekig timpaan met reliëf uit het atelier van de Gebroeders van Thoor te Susteren. De hal is thans voor diverse doeleinden in gebruik en dienovereenkomstig aangepast.
Omschrijving.
Fabriekshal opgetrokken op een rechthoekig grondplan in de vorm van een samengestelde langshal onder een samenstelling van een hoog en een lager zadeldak, met de nokrichting parallel aan de straat. De schilden zijn belegd met rode Hollandse pannen. Links eindigt de hal tegen een drie traveeën breed volume onder schildkap met rode tuile du Nordpannen. De gevels zijn opgetrokken in baksteen in kruisverband en voorzien van segmentboogvormig afgesloten vensters met 12-ruits gietijzeren ramen. Deze ramen hebben aan de onderzijde gemetselde lekdorpels. De regelmatig ingedeelde voorgevel langs de Aasterbergweg wordt geleed door lisenen in 20 traveeën en drie traveeën in het aangebouwde linker volume. In elke travee in drie bouwlagen vensters zoals beschreven. Deze vensters zijn grotendeels dichtgeverfd, de vensters in de eerste bouwlaag zijn aan de buitenzijde met platen dichtgezet. De gevel wordt aan de bovenzijde afgesloten met een fries in druppelvormig siermetselwerk. Het aangebouwde gedeelte links heeft afwijkend metselwerk, maar is voorzien van vergelijkbare vensters en siermetselwerk. In plaats van een twaalfruits hebben deze vensters een vierruits indeling. De derde bouwlaag heeft lagere vensters. In de laatste travee rechts is een doorrit naar het achtergelegen fabrieksterrein opgenomen. De voorgevel wordt benadrukt door een topgevel ter breedte van de 13de en 14e travee van links. Deze topgevel bevat een een driehoekig timpaan met op een achtergrond in blokverband de beeltenis van een aanvliegende valk met een dakpan in de poten. Aan weerszijden bevinden zich golvende siermotieven en voorts het opschrift "MCM/Fa. J. Meuwissen/Dakpannenfabriek 'De Valk' ". De rechter zijgevel sluit volledig tegen de belendende panden aan. De achtergevel telt drie volledige bouwlagen en is aan de bovenzijde met een afdekking van keramische pannen afgesloten. De gevel is geleed in traveeën door lisenen die rusten op zwaarder uitgevoerde muurpijlers ter hoogte van de eerste bouwlaag. Deze eerste bouwlaag was oorspronkelijk als open galerij uitgevoerd. De ruimte tussen de pijlers is in het derde kwart van de twintigste eeuw dichtgezet met grote meerruits vensters en met enkele moderne inrijpoorten. In de tweede en derde bouwlaag bevinden zich per travee kleine segmentboogvormig afgesloten vensters zoals beschreven. Het interieur bestaat uit diverse grote ruimten overeenkomstig de oorspronkelijk indeling maar thans voor diverse doeleinden in gebruik. In de zuidelijke beuk in de vloer restanten van een smalspoor.
Waardering.
De fabriekshal is van algemeen belang vanwege cultuurhistorische en architectuurhistorische waarden als essentieel onderdeel van de dakpannenfabriek De Valk. De hal heeft architectuurhistorische en typologische waarde als goed en in hoofdvorm en opzet gaaf bewaard voorbeeld van een dergelijke hal uit het begin van de twintigste eeuw, met onder meer een karakteristieke gevelindeling en een voor Limburgse ovengebouwen typische hoofdvorm. Het fraaie timpaan met de naam van de fabriek draagt bij tot de illustratieve waarde van de hal. De hal heeft vanwege de functie, historie en situering ensemblewaarde in samenhang met de overige complexonderdelen en is bepalend voor de kenmerkende en zeldzame fabrieksgevelwand die het complex vormt langs de Aasterbergweg.

FACTORY HALL component of the tile factory complex De Valk and built in the first quarter of the twentieth century, presumably shortly after 1900 (foundation stone). The facade of the hall contains a triangular tympanum with relief from the studio of the Gebroeders van Thoor in Susteren. The hall is now in use for various purposes and adapted accordingly.
Description.
Factory hall constructed on a rectangular ground plan in the form of a composite longitudinal hall beneath a composition of a high and a lower gabled roof, with the ridge direction parallel to the street. The gable ends are covered with red Dutch tiles. On the left the hall terminates against a three-bay wide volume beneath a hipped roof with red tuile du Nord tiles. The facades are constructed in brick in cross bond and provided with segmental arch windows with 12-pane cast iron frames. These frames have brick drip mouldings at the underside. The regularly organised front facade along the Aasterbergweg is articulated by pilaster strips in 20 bays and three bays in the attached left volume. In each bay on three storeys windows as described. These windows are largely painted over, the windows on the first storey are boarded up on the outside. The facade is terminated at the top with a frieze in drip-shaped decorative brickwork. The attached section on the left has different brickwork, but is provided with similar windows and decorative brickwork.
