Inleiding
In de noordwestelijke hoek van de algemene begraafplaats van Sambeek staat het GRAFKRUIS van W. Kateman (+1930), dat waarschijnlijk dateert uit het eerste kwart van de twintigste eeuw.
Omschrijving
Het opengewerkte gietijzeren kruis heeft in het centrum de opgelegde gietijzeren afbeelding van de gekruisigde Christus, met stralenkrans omgeven. De kruisbalken zijn versierd met sterk (manieristisch) gestileerde florale motieven. In de schacht een uitgespaarde ruimte waarin het tekstbord. Het kruis is gesteld op een hardstenen basement.
Waardering
Het gietijzeren grafmonument is van algemeen belang. Het heeft cultuurhistorische waarde als bijzondere uitdrukking van een sociale en geestelijke ontwikkeling, in het bijzonder de ontwikkeling van de katholieke grafcultuur, het is tevens van belang voor de typologische ontwikkeling van het gietijzeren grafmonument.
